My wife and I stayed here for our 5th anniversary; our first time ever at a bed and breakfast. It was the most wonderful experience and one I look forward to repeating in the future.Dana and Chris are the most welcoming and pleasant people running a beautiful and quaint old inn. Every morning they made a delicious spread of light treats for breakfast, coupled with personally made orders of eggs, pancakes, with many ingredients from the local farmers market. They have numerous vegetarian options and Dana is even working with a number of Vegan items as well, (our first morning she had vegan scones for everyone to enjoy). When they aren't preparing breakfast, the two are wonderfully friendly, taking time to converse with their guests, asking about plans and offering suggestions on great places to go and things to do around town. Their furry, four-legged co-host Arlo is also there to help welcome you, often waiting at the foot of the stairs for guests to come down so he can come over to say hi.I'm not saying the inn is perfect; it's an old house and it has its quirks, but the two who run it are certainly top notch. During our first night, my wife and I noticed a persistent whistle coming from the vents. The next day we mentioned it to Chris and that day he looked into the cause and managed to find a solution to at least reduce the sound for our second night. The grounds are also a beautiful garden in the making. While not quite as beautiful as it could be yet, the two are slowly in the process of improving it. It was very relaxing walking around the grounds just to admire the peaceful ambiance provided by the quiet little garden. So if you find yourself in the Kalamazoo area, I highly recommend contacting the folks at Stuart Avenue Inn. I promise, you...
Read moreI absolutely loved staying here! The inn is gorgeous and inviting with many gathering/sitting areas in the main downstairs. The hosts, Chris and Dana are very personable and accomodating and we had some nice chats with them both. They have a very sweet dog, Arlo. He greeted us when we arrived and when we came down for breakfast. They made delicious breakfast as well! The room was cozy and had some neat antiques and artwork. The only downfall for me was I found the bed a bit uncomfortable, but I find it hard to adjust to "strange" places that aren't home. The heat also has a slight whistle sound when it kicks on which was a little annoying, but odd sounds are expected for an old home. Otherwise very quiet. The room was a bit chilly (3 windows and facing an open corner, in the middle of December, what do you expect lol) with the drapes open, but not too bad when closed. They provide nice, warm and cozy blankets as well as a small heater to help keep warm (though I keep my own home on the cooler side so no problem for me). It's in a nice neighborhood, surrounded with other stately homes, easy and convenient to get to downtown and other spots around he area. I'm so very glad I chose this over a hotel and at only a slightly higher cost, with free breakfast (real food!) and...
Read moreWe just stayed here for 2 nights during the Division II Girls State Tennis Finals at Stowe Stadium. The location is literally across the street from the tennis courts and Kalamazoo College, making it a huge convenience since you don't have to worry about parking on Kalamazoo College's small campus - just walk over there! The Inn Keepers are so incredibly nice - chatty yet not intrusive at all. We had some early matches and they were so accommodating with our schedule and breakfast. The breakfast is DELICIOUS - if you stay, I hope you get Dana's low-carb, high protein lemon ricotta pancakes! There were so amazing that I had to ask her for the recipe! The rooms are large and spacious and with the new HVAC system and individual digital thermostats the room temp was heavenly in the nearly 90 degree weather. Arlo is the resident dog and he hangs out on the main floor. He loves a good pet but will only approach you if you invite him, he is not rambunctious at all. The gardens are gorgeous and there are lots of interesting antiques around the house, as well as lots of parlor space to relax. ...
