I'm not a huge fan of the festivals they seem really overpriced to me for what they offer but it is pretty cool to have the live bands come in bathrooms available are Porta-Potty style when they have them up but it's got a pretty decent little playground area you may want to police it before your kids play on it in case someone has left something it is across the street from the bus station and the mission so most days there are a lot of transient people hanging out in this park. But everybody's really friendly and nobody ever seems to give anybody else a hard time. Not my first choice but it's okay. honestly it's a lot more fun to just go down the street a little bit to Water Street Coffee Joint or over to Bells when there's a band at Arcadia Creek and you can hear the music for free and if you're at Bealls enjoying Oberon and some good food or water Street hang out outside and hear the band and have one of Kalamazoo's best coffees and amazing snacks. I can also highly recommend the black owl Cafe which is just down the road a little ways about a block or two and by far the best coffee and food I've ever had in Kalamazoo and they do have outdoor seating so again great place to enjoy the music from Arcadia without dealing with...
Read moreThis is a beautiful venue. Centrally located downtown and easily walkable to multiple parking garages and street parking. I have enjoyed several festivals this year including the Pride festival and Carribean festival. Each festival has been slightly different by the various organizers. The food trucks are typically tucked away in the back and the entrance is either right in front of the bridge or in the back right in front of the food trucks. The Carribean festival had metal detectors for the women and pat downs for the men. Each festival has different entrance costs. They all accept credit/debit cards at the entrance, alcohol tickets, and food trucks with an added fee. I love the acoustics and the big stage speakers. I also like how the vendors are perfectly situated around the venue during the festivals. Very thankful to have such a nice place to hold these festivals. My only hope is that the organizers add additional trash and recycling cans around the venue because they fill quickly and people start to throw their trash and recycling next to the cans when...
Read moreThis review may be skewed because of timing and mainly includes the playground portion of the grounds.
Went to Binder Park zoo for the 4th. Came into town for dinner and wanted to hit up the park before the drive back to GR.
Playground equipment and surrounding grassy areas were almost filled with homeless folk and trash.
Both can be explained easily.
Trash was probably from a previous event that week. Understandable.
Same for the homeless folk. They don't have a place to go, public park is a place to go.
Just in an attempt to make those less aware that these things can be noticed. A park cleanup after an event can fix the trash. Due maintenance on the grounds can solve some more problems. Homeless folk are a gray area. (A discussion I'm not...
