I have edited this review to 1 star all around due to the restaurant owners incredibly unprofessional respond to honest criticism. I also read through their other low reviews and have noticed a trend of gaslighting and verbal abuse from this owner. They should be ashamed of themselves, for the terrible food and their behavior.
-------‐----------------------------------- I'm a consulting chef, and unfortunately look at restaurants with a very critical eye. I was craving biscuits and gravy and am new to Kalamazoo, so I found Maggie's and thought I would give it a try.
The service was friendly and prompt. I managed to walk in before a small rush. I decided on the Poutine because I'm from the south and don't see that often.
To say I was disappointed when my food arrived would be a gross understatement. The gravy was a milky soup. Cheese was cold on top and eggs were undercooked. The coffee, however, was delicious. I managed to eat half my dish. The overall flavor was bland and boring. I spent the remainder of the day with dooky guts.
As a chef of 20 years, I know the demands on the industry, and generally do not send food back unless it is extremely wrong. So I accepted my overpriced garbage and left. I will not return, unless they would like to hire me to teach their staff what food...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I walked in and we greeted and told to find an open seat, business as usual. After our drink orders were taken, which were just coffee and water, we probably waited like 20 more minutes before anyone took our food order. It was very awkward because half of the crew was on and off their phones, walking past us, looking at us and walking away.
After 20 minutes or so, a different girl takes our order. The food did come out in a reasonable amount of time and the food wasn’t bad at all. In fact, I enjoyed the food. But NO ONE came back and checked on us once. We didn’t get a “how’s everything tasting?”, “is there anything else you need?” And no one ever asked again if we wanted more coffee until we were about to leave.
Maybe it was just the crew we had. But those girls never smiled. It took forever to get our order taken despite them just on their phones and hanging out. It just really threw the whole experience off. We might be back to give it another chance because there are some good...
Read moreMedicore is the best word to describe our experience Monday. Tip to tail. Our server, Erin, gave the absolute minimal amount of attention to be considered acceptable. She never inquired about how our experience was.
The bathrooms, as well as the menus, are clearly not cleaned regularly. Both are in serious need of a good wipe down. The toilet paper dispenser is so close to the floor you have to actively work to not let it touch the ground when you retrieve some.
I ordered the waffle. It was awful. For $6.50 you get a small room-temp waffle and a side of syrup. I had to ask for butter. She dropped a handful of cold prepackaged containers on the table. The waffle was not warm enough to melt it.
My companion got the breakfast stew. He said it was good, and it is apparently what they are known for. However, they do not allow substitutions, so if you don't eat pork you're outta luck. I will not be...
