In-A-Tub — Restaurant in Kansas City

What kind of name is In a Tub? Lol

Researched it, as the building itself looks like a food establishment, and it is infact a restaurant. And a highly rated one at that.

Ordered a couple of the xtra hot, meat and cheese, deep fried tacos, and a cheese pocket burger. Also am ordee od their fried zucchini.

While waiting for our food, we got to meet the owner, and he explained he had been there for 35 years! Enjoyed the convo. Good people.

Our food came out, and the tacos were covered in powder cheese, and you couldn't see any meat protruding from the hamburger bun. Worried, we dug in... man, these tacos are absolutely amazing!!! Special! And the powdered cheese tasted like a really sharp cheddar cheese instead of a powdery texture. The xtra hot was still not hot at all.

The pocket burger turned out to be something similar to a sloppy Joe without the tomato flavor. Just ground meat with cheese, and i believe it was relish and mustard. The bun was soft like a pillow, and the whole burger was amazing. I'm not a mustard on a burger guy, but this worked soooo well.

The fried zucchini were excellent as well. They come with some ranch dipping sauce that has to be made in-house, or its not hidden valley for sure!

I want to order ten tacos next time and just go to flavor...

The deep fried tacos are the best. I only come here about once or twice a year because I live on the Kansas side. The place never changes. It's Always the same great casual atmosphere where everyone seems to interact with each other with just a hi or comments about how good their food looks. The only silly complaint I have is the the chairs in the dining room need some rubber or plastic on the bottom of the legs. They are all a good strong metal which is great for bigger people to feel safe and comfortable to sit on them. But they are so so loud when people scoot them around on the cement floor. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard x10 because it echoes in there. Otherwise, I love this place and wish there was a location on the Kansas side.

Update: 8/2/2025 Of course I had the fried tacos....you just have to have them when you come here. But I also got a tenderloin sandwich and tots. The tots were tots, so you know they are good. But the tenderloin sandwich was out of this world in my opinion. I had mayo, lettuce,conion, and American cheese on it, nothing out of the ordinary. I think it must be the breading that is so good. I would not recommend this place unfortunately. Me an my daughter who is a deaf (wear cochlear implants) stop inside to grab a bit to eat. She loves taco and I want to teach her how to order food when she goes inside. First the menu was very limited on description. Which was a little confusing for a first time customer. The lady at the register was seem to be bothered while we were ordering. We had question regarding what is included inside the tacos and she in my opinion had very little patience. One you should work in service if you are going to be bothered by new customers asking questions. My daughter at times take a little longer when ordering because with cochlear implants she has to focus on hearing the person speaking over all the other outside noise (machines beeping, other customers, the drive thru employee, cook wear sounds, on top of some restaurant play music). I really felt the cashier was very short, snappy, and her tone of voice was not kind at all. We ended up canceling what we did order because one my daughter was uncomfortable being there as well as the restaurant doesn't offer most traditional toppings for tacos. I definitely would not...
