When I pulled up, the first thing I saw was a red snow shovel by the front door. I chuckled since I'm not sure how much snow they are expecting in August. Then I started to worry that if they haven't paid any attention this, what kind of attention are they giving to the kitchen. If it wasn't for this place being highly recommended by a coworker, I seriously thought about driving away. After asking what was in the Mongolian beef, I decided to order that along with the General Tso (I love cold leftover Chinese food). I upgraded one to the dinner special which came with one of the better egg rolls that I've had. The crab Rangoon was also good but my takeout didn't included any sweet and sour sauce. I'm not surprised since I read where another reviewer repeatedly mentioned that she doesn't get any sweet and sour sauce. Maybe the guy in charge of putting away the shovel is also in charge of the sweet and sour sauce. This also included a fried shrimp, which was fine, but didn't appeal to my personal preference. For the soup, the guy taking my order suggested the hot and sour, which was disappointing. Not very thick, was mostly all broth, and the flavor was a bit off. As for the entrees, the portions are enormous. I enjoyed the General Tso chicken (no vegetables were harmed in the making of this dish), and it passed the cold taste test the next morning and following evening (you get a ton of food for less than $10). I found myself adding a bunch of soy sauce to the Mongolian beef, which tells me that it was lacking flavor. I also had to take my time and really chew this dish since the beef was so poor, there was a serious risk of choking. It did not pass the cold taste test and I found myself throwing it away. They have a lot of great reviews so what they are doing is working for them, but I did read where others also complained about the quality of the protein. I would have been a lot happier with this dish if the quality of the beef was a lot better, the vegetables were fresher and if the portion was half the size. I discovered in Google maps that they have a "Haven't Visited" button you can select when searching for restaurants in your area. I noticed that I have a large number of Asian restaurants pretty close to my house that I haven't tried yet. Hard to say if I'll make it back...
Read moreWe ordered delivery through Menufy; chicken fried rice, lemon chicken, and egg drop soup. The approximate arrival time was 30-40 minutes plus they had good reviews so we thought we'd try it. Our food arrived an hour past the original 30 minute approximation, I had called the restaurant twice telling them of my concerns that the food would be cold. I had already tipped and paid on my card so I suppose they didn't care.
The food arrived luke warm at best. Super frustrating. The fried rice was completely different than anything we'd ever seen or tasted before, it was super dark and did not taste like fried rice. That's my husbands "go to" and he did not like it. He opted to just eat the egg drop soup (which he really liked and why I gave the review 2 stars) and found other food in the house to eat instead.
The lemon chicken was okay, mostly because the sauce was good. A few notes here would be it is HEAVILY breaded with little chicken inside, instead of a lightly breaded as described on the menu. I started to just peel off the outside breading to try to get some chicken...several pieces were just pure breading through and through.
Egg Drop soup was really good (as stated above) and we liked the crunchy crackers that came with it as those had some special seasoning on them as well.
Overall not a good experience for us and unfortunately we will...
Read moreI moved here from Columbia, MO three years ago. This place is definitely the best I’ve had since I’ve moved here. General’s Chicken is great, beef lo mein isn’t sticky and is dark brown and full of flavor. 6 inch egg rolls! :) seriously huge and delicious. The fried rice is even better than anywhere else! I haven’t tried their Szechuan yet because I’ve had too many disappointments in KC when ordering that. But if they have good Szechuan then they deserve 10 stars! I also read another review that says they have sushi! Mind. Blown! I’m gonna stop in and eat there now. I know this sounds over the top but after 3 years of looking and trying places I’m finally happy. No wonder they have so many great reviews. I’ve ordered from a half dozen places in the Northland then I had been getting sub par stuff from a place close to me just because I had heard that they were the only place that delivers to my work and then I guess I just got used to it but now I know this is the place to go! Blows every...
