J'S Fish And Chicken — Restaurant in Kansas City

The fried chicken is unequaled. I just wish they were in a safer area. Normally there is an able bodied young man begging outside the front door. Past couple times I went there was some guy inside talking to himself listening to music loud on his phone. I don't think he even ordered food. Tonight some.entitled woman was taking up all 3 parking places in front. Then as i was waiting for oncoming traffic to clear to pull in, a little blue car zipped in, followed by cops who turner their lights on and jumped out and started questioning the kids in the car. Then i walk in and there is a tall skinny guy who smelled like he.had 4 or 5 bricks of weed in his backpack. It's quite the adventure. I wish they would police their property better and keep beggars from hanging outside the door. But again, the chicken is unequaled!

EDIT: Went there again last night and got hit by three beggars in two minutes. Was an older guy outside sitting against the front of the building you practically have to walk over to get inside. When I was inside a grey haired guy came in and asked me for money. I thought it was the guy out front following me in...it wasn't. Then when I got my food and went back outside the guy in front was begging at me again. Then, a woman who was standing near the road starts coming towards my vehicle when I jumped in. Figured she was either going to ask me for money or a ride or solicit me. I threw it in reverse and got the hell out of there. ...

The food is always fresh and delicious, that is the only reason I return here. They put lemon pepper on pretty much everything on the menu so watch for that, but it's good food (minus the macaroni and cheese - not great).

The real issue is the customer service. Calling in an order/dealing with the employees in the store is a nightmare.

Rude and hasty order taking, they always rush you on the phone and 9/10 don't understand exactly what you want. Once you arrive they completely ignore you until you're barked up to the counter, where they try to figure out what you asked for (even when we put a name on the order they still ask what was in it).

Tonight the man told us very rudely that we should've ordered our meals separate as we had to split the tickets in the store. We tried to ask him to not rush us on the phone so we could actually split it up and we were received with cold silence.

The food is great, but given the effort put into customer service I have to wonder about the effort in preparation behind the counter as well. I've tried time and again to keep a smile on my face but it is exclusively met with an icy demeanor. The tip line is a joke by the time you're given your ticket. Tonight will be the last time we...

Heard high reviews from those I asked about the place. I've been intending to check it out for a while. Finally got the chance to stop in (remember) while in the area. I went in and order was taken immediately after I scanned the Menu board for a while (maybe 2 inline as I checked the menu. Ordered the 5 wings and 2 piece Catfish fillets, no sides. I was really pleased that food was COOKED at time order was given knowing my meal will be FRESH and HOT👍therefore, waiting was no problem at all....HOT 🐓wings and 🐟 cooked to order👌. As I wait more customers come and even more orders coming up (many call in orders), got a little crowd up in there but the flow was smooth. Got my order appx. 15-20 mins. drive home less than 5 min. prep myself with extras on my plate. To me it was not even half of being what I hoped or at least expected. Wings very, very small, the wings and the fish(nice size pieces)were dry, overcook and not well seasoned. Disappointed, yes I was, I ate half my sister ate other half and she enjoyed it. I'm not going to give up on this restaurant, I will not place total blame on it, but some on myself as well.
