Houston is known for several types of foods, like BBQ, burgers, etc. but the food that is most associated with the area is Mexican. Even though we have an abundance of these restaurants, I still like to try new places and thus I was more than ready to visit and sample the food at Neca’s Mexican Restaurant and Cantina in Fulshear.
The first thing that got my attention here was the size of the interior. There are a few different sections to the dining area and plus outdoor seating, and it looks like it could hold about 150 guests. The bar area is smaller than expected, but the overall space is larger than the average Fulshear restaurant. There is also a good deal of spacing between the tables, so you don’t need to worry about bumping into people.
With the food, Neca’s Mexican Restaurant and Cantina serves the classic Mexican food options, like you would expect. The food tastes fresh and good. They start you off with the traditional nacho chips with red salsa and green. I found the salsa a little too bland, but it was still good for a warmup. And the food itself is certainly better than average, from the rice, to the beans, to the main dish. I like, too, that they serve different meat options and seafood and it’s cool that the portion sizes are not excessive. I prefer not to take food home with me and there is no such problem at this restaurant.
I do have an issue here with the beer. The choices are too few and there is little to no craft beer among the selections. They do, however, serve some good margaritas and the bartenders can mix up a cocktail to your liking. So, when all things are considered, Neca’s Mexican Restaurant & Cantina in Fulshear is a restaurant worth visiting. I like what I experienced here and the service was quick and courteous. I recommend paying them a visit if you’re...
Read moreArrived 9 pm (open until 10), warmly greeted with nice big smile from hostess 🥰 (off to a great start!) My standards at Mexican food restaurants are: how’s the cheese enchiladas, charro beans and guacamole? I rate the food as fairly decent. Get you by in a Tex Mex fix. This restaurant tries hard to please. Very attentive service without being overbearing. They don’t nickel and dime you to death for things that should be included, like pico de gallo on the plate. Decent amount too. Good size and tasty guacamole 🥑 for only $2.99. I wanted more enchilada gravy and God bless them, no extra charge! Inadvertently gave me refried beans when I asked for charro, hastily brought the right ones. It is a bit sterile inside; they could add more decor, hang some pepper 🌶 lights, festive it up a bit. It’s also brightly lit (I’m good with); however they could dim the lights a bit to create a more festive atmosphere. Super nice people serving there and I was happy to give a good tip, 1) for their strong efforts to please, 2) for genuinely caring about their customers, 3) for being open until 10 pm, and yes, 4) for the food. I LOVE not having all those surprise charges on my bill and LOVE being appreciated as a customer 👏 Give them a try! (Oh…food came out...
Read moreOn Saturday, June 28th, I ordered the large beef fajita nachos from Neca’s. On Sunday, June 29th, I became extremely sick after reheating the beef fajita nachos from Neca’s —something that has never happened before. Between Saturday and Sunday, the only meal I had was Neca’s nachos. I had to go to urgent care, where I was put on an IV and given medication to treat what was diagnosed as food poisoning.
In addition to the above facts, my toddler ate a bit off my plate Saturday/Sunday and exhibited symptoms similar to mine.
On Monday, June 30th at 9:04am, I called to share my experience with the staff. To be clear, my intention in calling was not to leave a negative review, but simply to bring the matter to the restaurant’s attention - privately. Unfortunately, the owner, Albert, was defensive throughout the call. He said things like, “I don’t doubt that happened, but we’ve never had a complaint,” and dismissed my experience rather than showing concern. I explained I wasn’t calling to leave a bad review but to make them aware. But alas, here we are.
If you’re looking for a place with good food and quality customer service, I suggest you look elsewhere. But if you’re fine risking your health and dealing with defensive owners, Neca’s may be the...
