Excellent & Exceeded Expectations! I’m very surprised at some of the bad reviews here, because we’ve eaten all over the world & this is one of the best restaurants we’ve eaten at. The venue is clean and simple, the server informed us that it’s their newer location. The server was extremely courteous & professional, explaining how the dishes were served & what to expect. There’s a Complimentary Salad that’s Dressed with an Oil/Vinaigrette, it was Fresh—so no one can complain about that. We started off with appetizers: Mantu, Bolani & Borani Badenjan (included Naan)—All Excellent! They were brought to the table adequately & hot (temperature). Flavors and textures were on point: tangy & semi-sweet sauce of the Borani & Mantu. The Meat Filling in the Mantu was Perfectly Seasoned, along with the Texture of the Dumplings. The Eggplant melts in your mouth & was not bitter whatsoever. The Bolani was Semi-Crisp, Tasty & Buttery. The Naans were baked to perfection & all were brought to us while piping hot. What place offers 12” Naans on this level for $1.70 per naan?! We then ordered the Challow Kebab with White Rice & Pulao—out of this world! Both Rices were steamed to perfection & aromatic in smell & taste. The Challow Kebab was super tender, cooked to perfection with slight charcoal aroma & flavor, minimal spices, which allowed the Natural Flavors of the Meat to be enjoyed. The Qabuli Pulao was on an entirely different level: Rice, Carrots, Raisins steamed with the Lamb Shank Broth was Memorable! Many restaurants over season this National Afghani Treasure with tons of Cumin, which can easily turn anyone off from the dish—NOT THIS ONE. When I say it was Perfect, I mean it! The Lamb Shank & It’s Fat were Perfectly Rendered Down& falling off the bone, I mean you could use your pinky finger with no force & it fell apart, ready to mix with the Rice. The Almighty God was with the Chefs. I was also happy to see the chefs, who were primarily, if not all females—doing their thing! Afghani Home Cooking had us smiling & wanting us to sleep there. Oh, the Afghani Green Tea—Perfect Combo of Afghani Green Tea & Cardamom with the Option to Sweeten with Honey or Sugar! Mango Juice was properly balanced. This review was of our own opinion, they didn’t remotely ask or mention anything, they simply served us what we ordered & paid for....
Read moreMy family and I come to this restaurant semi-frequently. We’re usually big fans of the food, but oftentimes we’ll have to check if the order was prepared correctly as we’ve had mistakes on our takeout order from this place multiple times. Today, I placed an order on the phone for pickup. The person speaking on the phone with me was brisk and unattentive, which I can understand if the restaurant is busy and he cannot afford too much time on the phone. However, when I showed up at the store, the person I spoke with on the phone had taken my order wrong, and had Falsely claimed that he “repeated my order to verify it” but never did. He was extremely argumentative and unprofessional as he kept insisting that he verified my order. But as the phone call was barely over 30 seconds long, I can assure you he did not repeat it. After retaking my order in store, he said it would be a wait which I didn’t mind as long as the order was correct. I didn’t have a great feeling as he was taking the order to the back so I asked him to repeat the order back to me again. I was APPALLED when he got the order wrong AGAIN, and even INSISTED that he repeated the reorder back to me in person. He was argumentative again and kept belittling me about it as well. I asked for his name and he kept repeating “I am the manager” over and over until I continued asking for his name. He says it’s “Bee.” I am extremely disappointed at the service of this person and the audacity to try and gaslight me about it as well. I expected better. In total, 2 stars. The food makes up for the lack of professionalism from...
Read moreI’ve always liked Safron Kabob House. Last week, I went there for dinner with two other families. We sat at one of the large empty tables and were soon greeted by the waiter. He mentioned they close at 10 PM, and I told him it was only 8:30 PM, so we’d be done well before closing.
We requested three separate checks, and the waiter said he could take care of that at the end. We didn’t think much of it at the time. I personally ordered three items and four drinks. The food arrived and was very good.
However, when it came time to pay, the experience took a turn. The waiter initially refused to split the check, claiming it wasn’t possible due to a system limitation. One of my friends insisted on a separate bill, and after about 10 minutes, the waiter managed to split it.
We then noticed that the prices charged were not the same as those listed on the menu... in fact many items were significantly overpriced. If you are wondering i end up paying near 80 for one appetizer, wrap with fries, and Kabuli pulao with 4 drinks. When I asked about the discrepancy, the waiter told us the menu had outdated prices. I asked for an invoice, but he said he couldn’t provide one because the system was new and the print/digital receipt functions weren’t working. After I insisted, he eventually printed a list of everything we ordered, but it didn’t include any prices.
Overall, while the food was good, the end of our visit was frustrating and disappointing. I’m giving it 2 stars solely because of the food quality, but I want others to be aware of the issues so they don’t feel taken...
