I must say this is probably the best BBQ I’ve ever put to my palate. I’m from North Alabama and BBQ is king here, so I’ve had my share of quality preparations. I’ve been to pits in almost every state that claims theirs is the best. But there is just one problem with that and that is..... they haven’t had Darren Greens BBQ! this guy know his stuff. I had the rib plate but was leaning towards pulled pork sandwich (for convenience sake) but he said, “I’m not going to tell you what’s good. Let your taste buds dictate that.” And so I did. I wen’t with the ribs. Heavenly experience from the first bite to the last. Although actual chewing was almost optional because they were so tender. The meat barely could stick the bone while still preserving a nice char on the outer meat to let the sauce unite for a holy union of flavor compatibility. I was wiping my plate trying to get every last drop. Darren is good at his craft and I suspect he will have a full blown store front soon! Don’t let the food truck fool you! It did me the first pass as I’ve had to many mediocre experiences. I drove by a second time with with no intention of stopping again but my wife said, “we’ve got to give it a try.” So I slammed on the brakes. Pulled over on the side of the road. Made a u-turn. Went directly there and man am I glad I did!! Don’t make the mistake of missing out of some of of the best BBQ! Read moreJust ordered the chicken and pulled pork bbq from this place. The person working asked what type of sauce that we wanted. Instead of putting the sauce in containers on the side, he drenched all of the food in the bbq sauce. Two people in our group have tomato allergies and can't eat bbq sauce. We asked the man if he could remake our food with the sauce on the side and he flat out refused. Bad service considering he didn't even tell us that the food would be drenched in sauce. He flat out refused to do anything for us. One star for service. There are plenty of other places on the island that make better barbecue with better service.
Also, just to be clear based on what the owner said below, every other bbq place we’ve been to on the island offers sauce on the side, or at least asked us if we wanted it on our food before dousing it. You just told us after the fact that it comes that way and that you wouldn’t do anything to fix it. Also there are plenty of bbq sauces that aren’t tomato-based. Read moreI’ve had bbq all over the US and smoke my own bbq at home. This is easily some of the best bbq that I’ve ever had. The ribs had great smoke rings to them and the dry rub was great; the meat pulled off the bone just as it is supposed to. The chicken was extremely moist and tender. The hot bbq sauce is to die for! The flavor is amazing and there’s a good amount of kick behind it. The Mac and cheese was quite unique - very much on the light side and a good take on the dish (recommend dipping in the bbq sauce). It’s easily apparent that the owner learned a lot and incorporated different bbq methodologies/techniques in his dishes - he toured much of the bbq trail across the southern US.
