I didn't really know how many ✨️ to give Shades of Brew, so I will try to explain why I gave 4 ⭐️. First of all, I understand it's a tap house. I don't drink. At all. Not even a sip (my boyfriend and his friend wanted to go). And that's why I was having trouble thinking what I was going to rate it as. They have a pretty great amount/selection of beer on tap. 27 to be exact, and they're all local. It makes me feel happy that they support breweries in the community. The bartender was fantastic. Very polite, friendly and informative. They do have a root beer from a local brewery on tap (McKenzie Brewing) and it's INCREDIBLE. It was so good I actually took a 64.oz growler home with me. They have in house pizza that I've heard nothing but great things about, but I didn't try any. All 3 of us (my boyfriend, his friend and I) each got something from a food truck called B's Plate that was parked next to the bar. I didn't like at all. They rotate menu items and you never know what they're going to have. I saw something on their website that made my mouth water. Walked up to the window and told them that's what I wanted, and of course they didn't have it. I didn't see anything else on the menu that I would eat, so I just kind of picked something. It wasn't good. The service was great. Friendly, polite, helpful, appreciative. I just didn't like the food. And that was the only food cart there that day. So it was either get something from the only place there or not get anything. Also, I didn't realize that the bar did in house pizza until after I placed my order with B's Plate 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ So yeah, that's my review. I hope it...
Read moreGreat to have a craft pub in Northeast Salem featuring mostly Salem, then Oregon, and some Washington craft beers. While not a brewery themselves they highlight and promote local and regional drinks.
The environment is wonderful, especially right now during these sun drenched days of mid-summer. Garage doors open, warehouse feel, and tables and chairs both inside and outside. Maybe most importantly - food trucks!
The food trucks are located right outside the South garage doors and you can order beneathe the covering of the building so during the rain you won't be directly in the elements. Currently you have Daniels Tacos, Tin-roof Bistro, and Campbell's BBQ featuring a true hardwood smoker (see pics).
One thing I particularly loved was how knowledgeable the bar tender was regarding the flavors, textures and pairing of beers with food. Her knowledge was deep and fun to interaction with. She brilliantly guided me to a great beer to go with my tacos - one I'd never had before (from Xicha - a local microbrewery).
I also love how clean the environment is.
You should definitely...
Read moreHad a decent experience my first time in(at first), I had a couple beers and a $10 pizza. I was there about an hour and a half, speaking with a good gentleman next to me at the end of the bar. The place had a small amount of people in it. I had a good enough conversation with the guy next to me, but the moment I got up to use the restroom the owner, (who had shown up with his family a short time before by the name of shane or shawn/sean) cleared my seat, took it over, and they relegated me to the other end of the barsince it was full, I'm assuming so he could be closer to the register while ordering? I don't know, but the bartender only then spoke to again to ask if I wanted another beer, amd then I was completely ignored for the rest of the evening until I asked to pay up. It was a joke, a waste of money, and the guy should probably not kick people around for conveniences'...
