I rated this hotel with one star only because I couldn't give it less and still post a review. I just completed a 48 state tour and this is the only hotel all across the country that was so bad, I would never stay there again. My bad experience began with my reservation. To be fair, I made an error and shortchanged the dates I needed by one. You wouldn't think that adding a day would be a problem, but my reservation was non-cancellable, and apparently, they considered adding a day as a cancellation. I am a Diamond Elite Choice Hotel Privileges member and even Choice Hotels was unable to sway them. Instead, I ended up with a second reservation for one additional day. Great customer service! NOT!||||Also in my reservation, I clearly stated that I travel with a service dog. When I arrived to check-in, the front desk told me they don't allow pets. I explained that I had arranged this in advance and that this was a service dog, not a pet. The front desk then told me they don't allow service dogs! I explained the American Disabilities Act and that I was certain they would not discriminate against me because I am disabled. He repeated that they don't allow service dogs. I told him that they didn't really have a choice as the Justice Department frowns upon discrimination against the disabled and they certainly didn't want the Justice Department angry with them. During all this the General Manager was pacing around from his office to the Front Desk area, to another "staff only" area. The whole time he was talking on his cell phone in what appeared to be a personal conversation. Not once did he make eye contact with me or stop to address the situation. Finally, the Front Desk Clerk disappeared into the staff only area with the GM only to return and check me in without another word from him or the GM. Great customer service! NOT!!!||||My next problem came when I found which room they had assigned to me. They gave me the last room at the far end of the hall. There was an entrance/exit door next to the room, but there was a paper sign taped to the door stating that the door was not to be opened and anyone who did, would be asked to leave the premises. So, knowing that the door was defective or something, why on earth would you assign that room to the disabled guest??? It certainly wasn't because the hotel was full. I was only going to be there for a few nights so I chose not to complain about it. Great customer service! NOT!!!||||When I opened the door the stench of urine and wet musty old carpet slammed me in the face. I have had to stay in some pretty disgusting places in my youth, but this was the worst that I have ever encountered. Again, I chose to suck it up and tolerate it as it would only be for a few nights. The location of the hotel was convenient for my purposes and it was a Choice Hotels property which I always choose.||||The hotel had two handicapped parking places. One was constantly filled with a work truck of what I could only assume belonged to an employee. The other handicapped parking space was filled with a fairly newer model BMW or something similar. Again, it appeared to belong to an employee ... probably the cellphone talking GM. Neither of these vehicles nor the motorcycle that squeezed in to park between them displayed any handicapped plates or permits. Great Customer service! NOT!!!||||While walking my service dog on the property I noticed at least two different homeless camps on the property. The garbage in the dumpsters didn't appear to have been emptied in quite some time either. And for some reason, they had multiple signs posted for "Parking for Sleep Inn guests only". That was odd since they were operating the facility under the Rodeway Inn brand.||||There was no breakfast or even coffee ... "due to covid". There was no housekeeping ... "due to covid". There were also no discounts because there was no breakfast, coffee, or housekeeping due to covid. A sign on the door stating masks were required by all ... apparently, all except employees. I didn't see any hand sanitizer and as I mentioned before it smelled of urine and moldy, wet, old carpet ... not of disinfectant. I'm really curious what the covid measures they've implemented were because they certainly weren't obvious.||||On checkout, I reviewed my bill to discover they had charged me a pet fee for my service dog in violation of the ADA ... not only once, but twice! Remember, I was forced to have two different reservations because my reservation could not be modified to add an additional day. I caught the GM off his cellphone and he made the corrections for me. I followed up with my bank and indeed he had made the correction.||||What did I learn from the experience? First, I will NEVER stay at this particular hotel again no matter what brand name they choose to operate it under. Second, I will NEVER make a prepaid reservation again, even if it costs me more. Third, While I love Choice Hotels and will continue to use them exclusively, I will NEVER stay in another...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at the Rodeway out of sheer necessity last weekend after a scheduling issue that left us with no other choice. In a similar situation in the future, I feel I could sleep under any bridge in Crackhead Central and receive better treatment and a higher level of hygiene. First of all, you know how the crime scene reveals look on TV shows after they're sprayed with Luminol and seen under blacklight? Well, that's precisely what the elevator doors looked like minus the geekery...along the bottom to about 1/4 of the way up there was sprayed some very suspect residue that would have looked more at home on a mattress at a by-the-hour establishment. The carpets in the hallways were actually crunchy and everything smelled like feet, wet cigarette butts, and bleach. The room was a disgrace...at first glance, it looked slightly more promising than the outer areas...until we discovered long hairs in the shower, unidentified gunk in the corners, and an actual still wet spot on the carpet. Needless to say, we slept dressed on top of the covers....or should I say: tried to sleep? The occupants in the room next to us were being loud but in any higher quality room, that would have been a relative non-issue. Add that to paper-thin walls and you have a recipe for hearing every moronic syllable of a frat boys' conversation broadcast in high fidelity through your room. I called the front desk twice about the noise and was ignored (if other reviews on the place have been read, I'm sure the abysmal customer service comes as no surprise). In the morning, I woke up with a debilitating earache so, despite a deep desire to remove ourselves from the place, I asked the (self-proclaimed) manager if we could stay till 12 (instead of 11) so that my husband would have time to run to the store (none of which were near the motel) and get me some medicine. He gave me me this blank stare and stated "check out is ee-levin. Late checkout only ee-levin tirtee. You want more, you pay whole extra day." I'm in obvious pain and I say, "Can I just pay you a few extra bucks for the last 1/2 hour?" And he replies - or should I say repeats, "check out is ee-levin. Late checkout only ee-levin tirtee. You want more, you pay whole extra day." So much for that. I still had enough misguided faith to check out their "Continental Breakfast". My uncle's description of penitentiary cuisine sounded more appetizing (and hygienic) than what was on offer there. I grabbed two pastries in sealed packaging and called it good...I didn't even trust their coffee as far as I could fling it since the dispensers looked like they hadn't been washed in 2 years. Let it be known that I almost never leave this negative of a review, but this place earned it. It's manager should lose his business license until he learns a minimal standard of customer service and hygiene...and to drop his cultural distaste for white women which, in Oregon, I'm fairly certain makes up a large percentage of...
Read moreThe reason I chose this hotel is due to the indoor swimming pool. We was tired and my special needs son needed some time out of the car on our trip home so we decided to stop for the night.
The guy at the desk that checked us in was nice(the guy that's in the late afternoon). We get checked in, get to the room my son instantly wants to go to the pool, I was all on board so he can relax, we get to the indoor pool it is dark, so we get the lights on, he puts his feet in it is warmish, he gets his body in the water and he is freezing. He is out of the pool within a minute and his body is so cold. I look at the water and it has no circulation going on as if it is not pumping as it should be. So what a waste. When we get to the room only 1 bed has pillows, no biggie as my son has his own. The breakfast was NOTHING like the pictures, it was real sorry. I have never seen a choice hotel with such a bad breakfast and we stay quite a bit all over the west coast. What topped off the stay at this hotel was we was about 4 hours into our trip after we checked out, my son was napping and woke up frantic we left his 3 stuffed animals behind. Anyone that knows anything about Special Needs children know about when they have something special they are attached too. I called the hotel, the morning guy, heard him tell someone that morning he owned that hotel. Well, I had asked him if they could check the room, he sent someone to check the room and said there was nothing there, I could hear a lady in the background say check the lost and found as housekeeping put some stuff there. My sons stuffies are in the lost and found. I asked the guy since we are already 4 hours away driving through bad snow if I paid for the shipping if he could send them to us. He was quick to say NO very clear and firm as the rest of the conversation he wanted to act like his English was bad. I asked him multiple times how would I be able to get my sons stuffies. He told me I will have to turn around and come back and get them or send someone to come and pick them up and have them send them to me. I explained to him we was just traveling through on our trip. He said he didn't care. I asked him if he could please put them in a box and send them C.O.D, he said NO, he will not put them in a bag, box or envelope and that I had to have someone come pick them up and ship them to me. During the phone call he told me he will throw them away and to just go buy new ones. He didn't care what they meant to my son. If I could of went through the phone I would of. I hope he don't have any children.
I want to thank my stars I'm in so many FB groups and found a awesome lady take the time out of her day to go and pick them up and...
