The food overall was phenomenal (especially the ribs-holy hell) Just a few things that kept me from giving them 5 stars. The potatoe salad had like no seasoning. They don't have kids meals. This is a big one for me personally. I've never been to a sit down bbq restaurant that didn't have a single kids size meal available. That being said, they also don't have fountain drinks, lemonade or kids drinks at all besides a large bottle of snapple. I don't think we would have gone if we had known all of this. (My fault-should have looked first, but who assumes that?) Everything is a la carte except the like 3 meat plates. So if you just want a bbq sandwich, you're paying $10 for a bbq sandwich, $4 (if you get the smallest size. If you want bigger than that its $6 or $8 for the biggest) for EACH side, and another $1.50 for a can of coke. To me, it isn't reasonable to pay $15.50 for a regular size bbq sandwich, one small side of plain potatoe salad and a can of coke. My son's meal was 2 ribs (good sized), a side of green beans and French fries and it was $16 (+a snapple for $3) so we're talking $19. My husband had loaded fries for $11 and my youngest we had to separately buy a quarter lb of meat and a side of fries for him because, no kids meals. Anyway, after paying separate for every little thing except my son's rib plate and adding a $5 tip for the counter ladies (deserved), it was $70 for 2 kids and 2 adults. No desserts, no extra sides etc. That much for LUNCH for a normal family of 4. To me it was just unreasonable. Even if we got the plates so the sides would be included, those were pricey too. All of that being said, the food was amazing (except the wack potatoe salad lol) and on top of that, the ladies (and the owner I believe) were all incredibly accommodating, checked on us regularly and they were all wonderful. No regrets, just too pricey to be a frequent customer. Definitely somewhere I'd go back with just my husband on a day we're prepared to spend 40 bucks for 2 people for...
Read moreThis place looked and felt like a nice local restaurant with a nice BBQ aroma and clean atmosphere so I wanted to give it a try.
I got the mac-N-Meat with brisket and a side of potato salad to go. Let's start with the meat since it's a BBQ place. Good flavor and smoke, although I hated it was served chopped as you couldn't see the quality of the smoke line and the meat dried out , as it may have been from a previous day , which I understand for a small, local, struggling restaurant. The mac-N-Cheese was mixed. While the pasta was cooked well , the bechamel was over-creamed and the experience had a pool of liquid at the bottom. A creamier gooey bechamel could have elevated it greatly , and a minor miss as it lacked some salt and pepper. I kept imagining it with some pickled red onions to cut through that fatty, creamy monotony and give a level of fresh to the palate. The potato salad , again cooked well , but far too drenched in mayonnaise. Some vegetables finely chopped in would have elevated it drastically. Perhaps my biggest gripe though is the bread, a Ziploc bag of store bought white bread , untoasted, unbuttered, zero effort, not even warmed. Surely even a paper wrapper would be cheaper and more eco friendly. I hope the restaurant improves and grows traction in the community , and listens to feedback. It's obvious somebody knows what they are doing there , but fails to be able to deliver a more refined dining experience that is expected from BBQ in Texas and within the local Keller community. I might revisit in a year or two when they have time to grow. Nice cozy local...
