Kind of going against the grain it appears with my review, but the reason we tried this new place was because of the reviews and frankly it was a bit of a let down. Yes, it's new and they are in a learning curve, early days of operation. This was evident given the slow(ish) service and staff to guest ratio was off. Certainly need more staff - and quickly as they are in the early days of making an 'opening impression'. The interior set up is just like the old FnG but with revised decor and it is still a nice, ambient atmosphere with mood music that is not intrusive to conversation. The cocktail drink list is nice and actually quirky and inventive. The execution of the cocktails is good. Top shelf drinks (vodka, gin, tequila etc.) are available but it's a let down that they don't have artisan mixers (just soda/tonic/soft drinks from the gun, which are notoriously bad) and is in opposition to the higher vibe of the drink menu. The wine list has some decent choices but has a huge price point markup from store prices. In fairness this is not unusual for this style of restaurant but it's an 'accepted pseudo scam' that I personally take issue with. The food - long wait for the food especially given that our order was for 2 simpler mains and a basic side, and overall actually just rating this as mediocre - certainly room for improvement - especially given the price point. We had pasta and honestly it was average flavor - chicken dish was a little dry (albeit presented nicely) but nothing to write home about.
Overall takeaway from our visit: New with teething problems regarding staffing - the staff were very cordial, attentive and professional but just stretched way too thin to make it work well. Cocktails: Great, no more expensive than at alternate restaurants of similar caliber and executed well with nice choices of 'house cocktails' plus the popular usual suspects (dirty martini, lemon drops etc) executed well. But still on the higher end cost and honestly this one element can't carry the whole experience. Wine - I said it above, decent choices (detest the up-charge). Food - Sorry but the quality to cost ratio was just not there for us. Much too expensive with average quality and flavor. Would we try it again - possibly yes - after it has been established a while we might try it again and see if there has been improvement in staffing and to try other menu items - we enjoyed the cocktails etc., it's close to where we live and Keller really needs a decent restaurant. Hoping...
Read moreAfter FnG Eats closed, I was curious to see what would take its place. When I read about SoHo Wine Bar in the weekly email sent out by the city of Keller, I knew we had to check it out. I’m glad we did as it did not disappoint! One of the first things we realized is that seating is essentially reservation only and the only way to do that is to call and make one. Thankfully, when we went for dinner on Saturday (9/13), the host was gracious enough to give us a table. Our family of four had a few appetizers - one was a special that night which was a fantastic crab cake and the other was the zucchini flowers. Both were delicious and you could tell it was made fresh.
My wife and I both had drinks, the Pear Martini was excellent and is definitely a must try as is the Game of Thrones cocktail.
For our entrees, we had the Ahi Tuna, the Beet Salad with Salmon, Chicken Parmigiana, and the Branzino Filet. Just look at the pictures, and yes, they tasted as good as they looked!
The service was excellent too! Andy our server was fantastic, giving us a rundown of options as well as letting know about off menu specials for the evening. He kept tabs on us the entire time we were there, making sure our water glasses were filled and checking in to see if there was anything we needed.
This is definitely a place to check out in Keller and a very welcome addition to the town...
Read moreThe most horrible experience ever. They only want your money.Whatever we ordered was delivered to our table wrong. Starting with the cocktails.A grey goose Martini with a lemon twist was served with olives. We got charged an extra $3.00 for the olives not ordered to begin with. When we ordered the appetizer we asked the waiter not to bring the main course too quickly as we wanted to enjoy our evening. The waiter said not to worry as it will take the kitchen at least 30 min. Amazingly the appetizer got served not even 5 minutes after the waiter took our order. Even more impressive was that our main courses got served 10 minutes later. We were not even half way of our cocktails. My wife ordered a chicken dish with pasta and it was severed with the wrong pasta. My pizza was served very undercooked. When I complained the waiter took it back to the kitchen and came back saying the chef cooked it perfectly. My wife and I travel the world and enjoy finding amazing food experiences for over 40 years. This one absolutely was the lowest of the lowest. As a gentleman I decided to pay for the full bill including a 20% tip but we will never go back there. I m afraid this place is just there to take the customers money and the suppliers money asap and disappear...
