OK, where shall I begin.
1st and foremost I go there for the Heildelberg Rye bread.
I have ordered Atleast $1000'S of dollars worth of cheese cakes and a variety of other cakes, pasteries.
Their cookies are only American styles, absolutely no German Style Cookies period, nope chocolate chip is NOT German a Made product.
What bothers me the most is this... when I get off work, sometimes I am able to get th we there by 6pm, 1 hour before closing...
I am standing there, at the register, with my purchases, for a minimum of 15 minutes. The employees rather play on their phones, I have ended up leaving everything on their counter and walked out, several times. When I had the luxury of getting there earlier in the day, voicing my experiences... Instead of firing the lazy, incompetent employees, they only apologize for their actions. And the cycle remains.
This issue is not with the morning, noon employees, they are fabulous, especially Ms Lola... what a busy lady. : )
I never say anything if it's busy, I don't say anything, but when there's may be 2 people in the whole restaurant, that's a whole different issue.
Of course, being the evening hours, the owners son, a very nice kid, late 20s maybe early 30s apologizes, but the point is, I myself have a 1½ hour drive to get home. I am tired. I just would Like my order, then go home.
I normally waited 15-20 minutes, ignored by the employees again playing on their cursid smart phone's. Many times I have been asked to come in early???? Unfortunately I don't have that particular luxury, again I live 1½ hours away, in the opposite direction. I haven't been back in over 1+ years.
I am elderly, tired and just want my items, which I called in earlier, had reserved. I am extremely tired, I want to go home.
I will have to find a different vendor, maybe Phiffer's in Harker Heights, it'll be a hell of a lot more convenient, but not as tasty, but I get my purchases done and...
Read moreKempner Brick Oven is a small place off Hwy 190, halfway between Copperas Cove and Lampasas. You could zip on by this place on the highway and not even notice it. If you are out this way and in the mood for some good authentic German food and baked goods, DON’T just drive by, stop and give them a try! There’s nothing fancy here, just a small family-owned local restaurant that has welcoming and friendly service.
The schnitzel and sausage that we tried were very good. So were the side dishes, including the cucumber salad, German potato salad, sauerkraut, and French fries. We enjoyed our meal and the fantastic customer service. Of course, we couldn’t leave without getting some baked goods to go! Their pretzels are fresh and look amazing, in fact everything looks great. We took home a full Apple Strudel, a slice of German Chocolate Cake, a slice of Black Forest Cake, and I couldn’t resist getting one of the extra-large pretzel kolache with ham and Swiss cheese inside. The strudel was light and flaky, although I did wish there was more apple filling, we loved it and ate it for breakfast the next day. The cakes were moist and tasted great.
This is one of those family-owned businesses that you just must try for yourself. Reasonable prices, friendly service, very good authentic German food, and an awesome bakery….what more can...

Schnitzel (5/5) The Carrot Cake (5/5) one of the best carrot cakes ive ever tried. It was moist! German Chocolate Cake (5/5) it was my first time trying german cake and it definitely did not disappoint as I am a coconut lover. Beer (5/5) i’ll buy some for the house next time i come visit
The sides that come with the meals were pretty decent. Nothing worth noting. If you have a simpler palate, you would fancy this place. The bread they give you as an appetizer is so good! The cakes I got were so delicious that I will definitely come back to try more and get more of the Carrot Cake.
It’s a small mom and pop diner-ish type. It was clean and the service was excellent. They were very friendly and accomodating. The guy that works there knows his beer and gave us a really good bottle. I regret not ordering one for myself. They also have a little market for your German needs like German sauces, chocolates, etc.
I would come back for their baked goods and my Schnitzel...
