Wow, what a rough experience. My family has been coming here for years, and my brother was in town, so we gathered a large party and were sat at a large table (10-top) on the back patio which was lovely and quiet. However, the experience went quickly downhill. For one thing, the server must have been flustered or had a rough night, poor thing - she dropped an entire fried fish plate and tartar-saucy cole slaw over the laps of two of our guests. That, we could live with - I've been a server, the job is not easy. But y'all, the food! Just terrible. My grandmother got the stuffed crab, and it came as just two piles of stuffing with no visible crab at all. Then, my brother and I ordered entrees and chose the boil potatoes as a side, and when we ate our first bite, we immediately looked at one another to check and see if we were crazy, or were these potatoes off? My boyfriend works at a reknowned restaurant and after he tried them too, he believed the potatoes were rotten/spoiled, likely having sat in the walk-in cooler well past health code standards. We sent the potatoes back, and I ordered the green beans instead. I was really upset then to discover they were canned green beans, straight out of the can, and they tasted of vinegar. I left them on the plate and enjoyed the mac-n-cheese which was OK, thankfully. My appetizer, the fried artichoke hearts were good too, with a huge portion. My boyfriend had several boiled items, crabs and shrimp, and said the crabs were small and the shrimp was overcooked and chewy. Thankfully, as we were paying our checks, a new waitress came out to make my grandma's stuffed crab situation better - gave her a whole new portion in a take-home container and blamed the new cooks for not getting the recipe right. My final complaint is the bill, though. I get it, seafood is expensive. But my boyfriend and I paid $96 for dinner: two bottled beers, a $7 appetizer, a $16 entree, and some boiled items. I felt robbed and will likely persuade my family to go elsewhere in the future. Sad, since we used to...
Read moreIt was alright. Tldr. Good food, slow service.
2 things to note on my visit: it was slammed, and I was very hungry.
We were quoted a 20 minute wait for a 2 person party (weekday night, it's apparently always packed according to our server) and ended up waiting about 30 minutes. We waited another 10 before our server took our drink and appetizer order, and perhaps another 10 before she took our entree order which of course took 15-20 minutes to cook.
Service was extremely slow. Again, they were very busy. I give our server some slack for this, but if handsome. Go again I would expect some long waits.
Cleanliness. Overall good. They keep the place clean. Bathroom did not have handsoap and the lock is non-functioning on the men's side for a single stall. The bathroom is in a not obvious location, you can't see it from the dining room and as far as I could tell there want signage for it. You'd think for a place as consistently busy as they are, they'd have better accommodations.
Food. We got the onion rings as an appetizer, two shrimp po boys, Cole slaw, seafood gumbo, and sweet tea to drink. I found the onion rings to be on the bland side and we got the dregs of the tea, but it was serviceable. Our to go drinks were much stronger, and I had to dilute it.
I found the po boy to be very tasty, same for the slaw. Bread was noted to be a bit hard, which may be rough on people with bad teeth. The gumbo was fine.
I was initially planning to give it 3 stars for the wait, but I really enjoyed the...
Read moreI was visiting new orleans and stopped by this restaurant because so many people said it was amazing. We waited an hour and a half to be seated, but other customers said that was the norm for a Saturday night. We were eventually seated and ordered our food. The waitress told one of my friends that they were out of crawfish. When the food came out, my other friend's gumbo was not hot and the waitress offered to microwave it for him and that it is "just like warming up leftovers". Another friend had gumbo and she had dried sausage in it. Like the gumbo has been at an unsafe temperature all day. The waitress offered to give my friend another piece of sausage that she can cut up and put into the gumbo. As I said before, the waitress told my friend that they were out of crawfish, but customers that came in after us received crawfish. I guess they only give crawfish to their regular customers if they are low. I received fried crawfish, which I assume is frozen prior to cooking because there was no seasoning at all and even though they were "out of" crawfish, there was no problem getting fried ones. The best food I tasted out of this whole experience was my corn and my raw oysters because they did not have to touch it. To top everything off, the waitress seemed as though she did not care that most of our food was not to our pleasing. I don't know why so many people say this is a great place. Bad service and...
