We arrived around 8:00 on a Saturday night. The place is dingy and run down with all booth seating, not at all what you'd expect from a steakhouse. The waitress was attentive and joyful, involving her two young children in the process when she could. All in all it seemed much more like a diner than a steakhouse.
My wife and I both ordered the Saturday ribeye special for $17. I ordered medium rare with steamed vegetables and she ordered medium well with a baked potato. Both steaks were well seasoned, cooked as ordered, and tasted good. Mine had a large section of fat and a lot of gristle, leaving me about 50-60 percent edible steak. Hers had no such problems. I guess there's some luck involved in which steak they cook you. Her potato was served with both butter and sour cream and was good. The steamed vegetables are just that - they have no fat or seasoning (and the waitress warned me about that). I added salt and pepper after tasting them. The broccoli and cauliflower were slightly overcooked/mushy, but not terrible. The carrots looked more like tree branches, brown and rough textured. I never even tried them.
We both ordered dessert. I got the chocolate cream pie and my wife got the peach cobbler with ice cream. The cobbler was more like a "slab pie" with an overcooked crust that had peach jam or preserves on it (no sign of whole peach slices or even bites). The ice cream was good. Overall, it was disappointing but huge. The chocolate cream pie was actually a tart, not a slice of pie. It was tiny but very good. It was odd that the cobbler was three times the size of the chocolate cream pie.
This might be the kind of place where you can get a decent meal at a reasonable price if you are a regular and know what to order, but I would not suggest it if you're just passing through town...
Read moreDon’t judge a book by it’s cover. Mama taught me that. I reminded myself of it when I pulled up to what was obviously an old Waffle House building. I reminded myself of that when I sat down and was handed a menu that was obviously made at a Kinko’s. I reminded myself of that when my sweet tea was brought out in an older plastic tumbler. THANK GOD I did! My T-bone was cooked to perfection and the serving size was very generous. My wife’s sirloin was flavorful, tender and also cooked to perfection! She got tater tots and they were excellent! My loaded baked potato was as big as my belly and baked/loaded like I was family. Bottom line, I’ve paid three times as much for a steak that wasn’t half as good! Moral of the story?...
Read moreIt was exactly what I expected. By no means a 5 star restaurant but I want expecting it to be. I ordered the Saturday special as did my wife. It was a ribeye, house salad, and a side. We also ordered fried mushrooms as an appetizer. I will say that those are probably the best fried mushrooms I've ever had. They looked like they were battered by hand. The ribeye special was 15.99. It was cooked the way I ordered it and was good. The waitress was awesome and even though the place was pretty full and she appeared to be the only waitress she was on top of it. If you're looking for a decent steak decently priced then I recommend them. The atmosphere, and very dated decor is the only reason I gave 4 stars...
