Update from my previous review of 4 stars from 4 years ago.
I hate to say it, but I had a really disappointing experience during what was supposed to be a pleasant morning catching up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while. Unfortunately, my visit to Ana’s not only left me dissatisfied but also set a negative tone for the rest of the day.
My friend arrived before me and secured a table, but things quickly went downhill. It took about 20 minutes for the waitress to come over, which felt excessive given how early it was and how few customers were present. When she finally arrived, we ordered juice and our meals. I politely asked if we could substitute bacon for something else since we don’t eat pork. Her response was surprisingly rude. She bluntly stated that substitutions weren’t allowed and that the pork could only be removed. When I mentioned that the Grandville location accommodates substitutions, she curtly told me we’d need to pay to upgrade, which I was fine with.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of the poor service. It took another 20 minutes just to get our juice and an additional 30 minutes for our meals. The waitress didn’t check on us during that time, and when I got up to ask for straws, she seemed visibly annoyed. The food eventually arrived, but it was far below the usual quality Anna’s is known for. When I mentioned this to her, she ignored my comment entirely.
It was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. What made it even more frustrating was the lack of care or attention from the staff. My husband and I used to be regulars at Ana’s, but after this incident, we decided to explore other brunch spots. We’ve since started going to Real Food Café, where the service and food have been consistently excellent.
Experiences like this remind me of how important customer service is. A single bad interaction can turn loyal customers...
Read moreSo, I was up at the crack of dawn and was looking for a good breakfast at like 6:30 in the morning. Not wanting to go to the traditional coney, I scoured Yelp and randomly found this place. I was like "huh, maybe I should go check this out." Boy, let me tell you, this place is totally worth going to.
I walked in and was blown away at how beautifully this place was decorated. Really soft colors, cute decor, and a wonderful wait staff to boot. I was greeted immediately and was seated in a really cozy booth in the center of the restaurant.
After scouring the menu, I had a real hard time deciding what to get. I was seriously hungry, but not starving, so I went with 2 chocolate chip pancakes. The pancakes were delicious! They were fluffy, filling and oh so good. Not too much of one thing, but enough that it was love!
The coffee here was pretty good and I can't rave about this place enough. I guess they have 4 different locations, and by the stroke of luck, I happened to stumble into one of them. I asked the server if they were coming to the Detroit area, and she said that they were going to open on up in Westland later this year. I will gladly drive to Westland, as this place is really worth the time and energy!
The bathrooms here are tip top beautiful. I haven't seen a bathroom is pretty in ages. Different shades of blue and green, with plenty of pictures. Plus, it was clean! At 6:30 in the morning! I could eat in the bathroom here, it's just that pretty!
Overall, this place is pretty good. Not the cheapest place in town, but definitely the...
Read moreI traveled to the Grand Rapids area for Spring Break to visit family and was excited to try Anna’s House for their variety of gluten and dairy free options. East Beltline was my first stop.
After getting diagnosed with Colitis almost two years ago I’ve lost enthusiasm for eating out. Very few places understand dietary needs and this is the first Breakfast/Lunch local “chain” I’ve come across that has created a whole menu around them. Now I know there are lots of non-dietary items as well but for once I didn’t have to focus on them. The GF pancakes (strawberry shortcake style right now) were amazing with a side of billion dollar bacon. They were moist (difficult to do with GF flour) and rich with flavor. Bacon lovers - you have to try the Billion Dollar bacon which makes a great shareable.
The atmosphere is retro classy with beach like blues and the staff is friendly and attentive. All seem to know the menu well and made good recommendations. One item I tried and loved was the Caribbean Sunset fresh juice. A little pricier than your typical OJ but what you’d expect and pay at a Juice or Smoothie place (not naming names here). I ordered this again when I visited another Anna’s House later in the week.
While the cost of food and many another essentials are on the rise, people are being pickier about their dining experiences. If you want an upscale breakfast or lunch that is worth the price, Anna’s House is the place to go. I hope more restaurants think about customers like me who want to enjoy eating out again if we can only find clean...
