Never again will I stay at the Hawrhorn Suites facility in Grand Rapids on East belt line. We came here Labor Day weekend from Wisconsin after experiencing 2 deaths in the family. When I asked around I heard nothing but positive words about this place...my experience was nothing like I thought it would be! When we arrived we were put into our first room upon entering that room you could clearly see that it had not been cleaned there was dust everywhere, dirt everywhere, stickers, coffee stains, the bathroom doors did not shut, the closet doors did not shut, it was just all-around dirty. Also the air did not work and in that unit there were no towels, there was no coffee, there was nothing a hotel should have had. We did complain to the front desk and she got us a new room...we’re going to the second room. upon initial entrance of the 2nd room it seemed cleaner. It actually smelled clean but after about 20 minutes we noticed there was bedbugs. I collected three bedbugs and called down to the front desk. We told them we’re in our second room there are bedbugs this is unacceptable. we go down to the front desk we are told there’s not a third room available when we told them we would be contacting the Better Business Bureau magically a third room became available. we go to that room the air works but it’s still filthy. food on the walls, slime on the carpet , stains on the furniture, stickers on the walls, food under the couch it was completely unacceptable, but at this point it was was late at night and our children were tired and hungry and so were we after driving all the way from Wisconsin. we opened up our bag of towels that we had to ask for and there was mold on the towels. we opened up the fold out bed in the third room and there was no sheets on it but there was food crumb, crayons, and hair ties all in the bed. Again, we walk up to the front we asked for new towels and sheets because there is mold on the towels and no sheets on the bed. We are told that there are none until morning therefore we were told we had to use what we had. Luckily we had brought some of our own towels. In every room we were in there was also black mold whether it be in the bathrooms or in the closet where the heater was. when we brought up the is issues basically we were told there was nothing we could do we had to contact corporate. we contacted corporate they told us this facility is privately owned so they need to handle it first. I received an email from the general manager apologizing for any inconvenience that this may have caused my family. I asked for my money back but because we did stay in that third room and from her notation there were no complaints about the third room which is incorrect they are refusing to refund our money. now I paid over $400 for two nights I did not expect to go into three different rooms that were not meeting standards; whether it be cleanliness, air, pest control or anything of that matter. I had six children with me from 4 months and up my family does have allergies and many have asthma and on top of it I had to worry about bringing bedbugs home with me. They have people living in and out of these rooms at this time from Chicago on section 8. This is no way that anybody should be living in the black mold with the bedbugs in the filth. And you would think that with Covid these rooms would be clean and sanitized!!! that was the furthest thing from what we received!!! I am very unsatisfied with my stay I wasn’t going to come to Facebook and put them on blast because I wanted them to handle the situation properly, but seeing even with the evidence that has been given they don’t want to work with us and they don’t want to give us our money back this is what it has gotten to. Its not just about getting our money back it’s about the health and well-being of the families that are...
Read moreNEVER AGAIN! WARNING! Don't let their pictures fool you! The photos of the kitchen with plates and a toaster are misleading. The kitchen is EMPTY and FILTHY, but they'll sell you a set of pots and pans at the front desk. They offer a great price, but you get what you pay for! I wanted to be able to leave some sort of good review, but they've now made that impossible. My husband and I were visiting Grand Rapids, so we booked a room at Affordable Suites of America - Grand Rapids (ASAGR) for May 23 - 25, 2025. Shawn was wonderful about checking with us to see what time we would arrive, as they don't have typical hotel desk hours. We arrived just before 5, when the office closes, got our room assignment, and went to our room. By the time we had a chance to look at anything, Shawn was gone. The cord to the TV was missing, so I called the after hours number at approximately 5:20 p.m. and left a message, hoping they might be able to rectify the cord issue while we were out of the room. Addionally, there was sand in the bathtub (you have to zoom in to see the sand, but a photo is attached). Still, we decided to stay the night and determine what to do the next morning. At 9 a.m. my husband and I went to the office, and Shawn was there, along with several other staff members behind the counter (I do not know their positions). We explained what happened and that we just weren't happy with the condition of the room. Shawn apologized, offered a different room, but we had decided we would just go somewhere else. I did not ask for a refund; however, Shawn said he would refund the two nights we didn't stay, and I thanked him. He looked on his computer and explained that since I had booked through a third party, I would have to request the refund from them. He told me to tell them that I talked to Shawn, the "Assistant General Manager", and he would approve the refund. I called VRBO and they said they would contact the host. After several days with no response, I called back. They explained that they had attempted to contact the host and received no response, so they "escalated" the case. Again I didn't hear anything, so I thought I would help by contacting ASAGR personally. So, yesterday (June 20) at approximate 1:30 p.m., I called ASAGR. A pleasant young woman answered the phone, and I asked if Shawn was available. She said he was and asked me to hold for a moment. I was on hold for a little over five minutes when my call was disconnected. I immediately called back, and Shawn answered. I was very nice, gave him my name, and asked if he remembered me, and reminded him of what happened and his offer of a refund. I told him that VRBO had attempted to call, but has not received a response. I asked if I could give him the case number to contact them. He immediately became rude and said he could not contact them, they had to contact him. He also said he inspected the room himself, that there was a cord for the TV and we had unplugged it (completely false). He said "I am not going to approve a refund. You called on a Friday at check-in time, and I am not having this conversation!" He abruptly hung up on me. Note: According to Affordable Suites of America's website, check-in isn't until 3 p.m. I called VRBO following the call and asked if he had to be contacted by them and could not contact VRBO, and the agent I spoke with said that wasn't true. If I could give a zero rating, I would. All that, and I didn't realize I didn't get a picture of the missing television cord, but I assure you it was not there. Photos attached include sand in the bathtub, broken microwave, chipping paint, dents in refrigerator, and other filth. Save your money and stay at a...
