Amazing apps, good steaks, all around solid spot! I came here for a work dinner the other night. We were a party of 15 and although originally intended to sit inside, one of the hosts let us know there was a spot outside that would be available sooner. They have an extensive wine menu as well as plenty of beers and a standard cocktail menu. Not a huge deal at all, but I do wish they had some N/A / mocktail offerings, a lot of places are expanding in that area and I think it would be nice if Outwest did too! I settled for a diet coke though while everyone else mostly had beers and old-fashioneds. One person did get a blue motorcycle which looked pretty interesting.
For apps, we ordered just about "one of each" (my foodie dream come true) - the prime rib sliders, crab dip, filet medallions, blackened shrimp, mushrooms, and we even went for the lamb entree (as a starter!). I also had a bowl of the French onion soup.
App-wise...all delicious! Filet medallions were cooked and seasoned perfectly (also made me excited for my entree because I had arrived set on a surf+turf), the blackened shrimp and avocado salsa hit the spot. The prime rib sliders...so so good (meat was super tender and juicy, the au jus was just a bonus), and even though I'm not big on mushrooms, they were fantastic as well. I don't have lamb often, but when I do, it normally does not disappoint, and this was no exception. It was also cooked and seasoned perfectly.
The bread and butter were good too - piping hot rolls and a slightly softened/whipped butter.
And we haven't even hit the main course!
Pretty much everyone ordered a filet/prime rib and lobster tail. I also ordered the stuffed tomatoes as a premium side. I only requested the 7oz cut but barely made a dent in it after sampling all of the apps. My filet was delicious, cooked medium, and the lobster tail was huge - a lot larger than I had been expecting. I will say flavor wise, nothing compares to a fresh Maine lobster, but this serving certainly compensated in size for what it lacked in that special Maine touch!
And finally for dessert - their special was apple cobbler cheesecake. As enticing as that was though (and plenty of others did order it), I went with the oreo crumb cheesecake and was very content with that decision. Only made it about 3 bites in before asking for a box!
To make a long review short, this was a great spot for a teambuilding dinner and I would definitely recommend it for a similar function. I'd come on my own dime, but I definitely wouldn't be ordering as extensively-ha!
Service was great, friendly, and very hospitable. Glasses were never empty and it seemed that dishes were being served...
Read moreKristen, Kristen, Kristen the top three things that are amazing about Out West was the superior top notch fully loaded service we got. In a day and time when great service is nowhere to be found, we had the most amazing service! Out of 10 stars Kristen gets 100!! As a former service industry employee, from kitchen to front of the house I know restaurants inside and out. If every server was Kristen’s caliber, all restaurants would be hugely successful. We will come back just to request her, that is how fantastic our service was. Now let’s talk about our experience. It was 8:10 on Tuesday night, they close at 9 so we had time. Walked in and the hostess asked if we would like to sit inside or on the patio, it was later in the evening so we said outside is great. And was it ever so great. The sun was setting, the atmosphere was cool, the gas lights on the wall were glowing and blowing in the breeze. Kristen had a large party and a smaller party outside and was running her legs off to provide great service. When she got to us she explained the features of the day, took our order and flew inside to retrieve our drinks. Watermelon margarita for mama, coconut mojito for me, both were fantastic and excellent summer drink choices for the menu. The watermelon margarita was absolutely amazing! We ordered lobster tail, a 16oz ribeye with she crab soup, wedge salad for her and sautéed mushrooms and house salad for me. If you like bacon, you MUST have the warm bacon vinaigrette for your salad, it’s an utter game changer! The soup was delicious and hot, the salads were fresh and crisp, the lobster was cooked very nicely and had excellent flavors. Now let’s talk about this 16 oz ribeye. I’m are blooded American man, I LOVE a good steak and without a doubt this was the best dang ribeye I have eaten in my 50 years. I grill at home and I make a mean steak, but this was butter! I don’t know the grade of meat or where they purchase from, but it was absolutely highest quality meat you can get. Every bite was better than the last. Our cap off of this ridiculously wonderful meal was the key lime pie. Lord Jesus, what a great meal and experience. Go to Out West, ask for Kristen, tell her Matt and Niki sent you. You will not be...
Read moreThe OutWest Steakhouse Experience (Dine-in Edition). I have passed OutWest on my travels several times and wanted to try them out. A friend and I went for dinner, and we ordered the crab dip as a starter (oven-baked blue lump crab dip with spinach, tomatoes, cream cheese, and toasted pita points). I also ordered a margarita. For my meal, I ordered the Grilled Fillet of Salmon made with orange curry sauce, West rice, and grilled asparagus. However, I substituted the curry sauce for the honey chipotle bourbon glaze, the rice for the sautéed white mushrooms with fresh garlic and burgundy wine, and the asparagus for Caesar salad with romaine hearts tossed with a traditional Caesar dressing, shaved Romano cheese and seasoned croutons.
While waiting for my food, I went to the restroom, which appeared clean during my visit. I also took in the ambiance of the restaurant. I couldn't believe Kernersville had an eatery at this scale. Nevertheless, upon returning to the table, I received my drink and, soon later, the dip. Not too soon after finishing the crab dip, my salad and meal came to the table. The food was good. However, I wish the glaze was on my salmon while cooking. The consistency of a glaze typically changes when heat is applied. Nevertheless, service was decent and flowing throughout the duration at the restaurant.
So, would I return? Yes, I would return to OutWest. My meal and the service were good. Having this dining experience, I know how to place my order the next time I dine there. For example, I want my glaze added to my salmon while cooking instead of on the side. Although I love mushrooms, I would like to try something different. However, all in all, I...
