Man was the food delicious! I'm lucky to live close to Amboy, so whenever I'm craving real Dominican/Puerto Rican/Mexican, etc., food, I can have it within minutes. Brinia's is just as good, if not better than any place I've eaten at in Amboy.
The place was nice, clean, and bright. The two ladies serving the customers were very polite and more than eager to help. I was unsure at first what I wanted, and while I was looking over the menu/offerings (all of the food is behind glass so you can see everything), both ladies asked multiple times if I needed any help, had questions as to what each dish was, and so on.
I finally settled on arroz con gandules, half with chicken, and half with coconut shrimp. The woman taking my order could see this was my first time there, and she threw in some maduros for me to try for free. The portion (small/regular) was rather large and very filling! I actually asked if I could not get as much rice as they'd normally give as I could tell I wouldn't be able to eat it all (I'm not a small guy). I got my food to go, and when I got home (15ish minutes), my meal was still piping hot. And the price. I see some reviews complaining, but for what you get, the quality and freshness, I think they're priced accordingly, especially in this day and age where everything is priced sky high.
I wish the owners the best, and I'll definitely be coming back...
Read moreI've come here a few times and always had good food so this is a really disappointing review to write. but recently I had the most disgusting experience with the sancocho. Not only was there 0 meat chunks in the container I was given (bones with fat don't count), but the entire container was swimming in small hairs. After reading a negative review about them not taking the hair off of the pork they cook, my only logical explanation would be that all of these hairs are pig hairs because I pulled at least 10 of them from the container, and that wasn't even all of them I just got tired of looking. If not that, then maybe they have some type of animal in the kitchen with them or somebodys plucking their eyebrows while making the sancocho...whichever one it is, still bad and it should never happen to this extent. To me, it indicates poor hygiene and food safety to me and makes me question their entire kitchen which is why I've chosen to review. 2 stars instead of 1 because unfortunately (but fortunately for them) their food...
Read moreBefore I retired I worked in the 5 boroughs of NYC so I have the pleasure of eating at many different places, from 5 Star Michelin restaurants (expense account) to mom and pop bodegas. I’ve always enjoyed the Dominican food on the side streets of Roosevelt Ave in Queens.Truly missed authentic Dominican food down the Jersey Shore until now. Last night after dining here on Oxtail Stew, Chicharrón and Beef Empanadas all I can say is WOW! The restaurant was clean, the owner and staff engaging and friendly and the food priced fairly for value. I wasn’t drinking my usual glass of wine with dinner but I believe BYOB would not be a problem. If you’re looking for a restaurant with posh linen, silverware and an overpriced dinner menu Brinia’s is not for you! If you enjoy authentic Dominican food with the hands down the BEST Beef Empanada I ever had...
