Run Forest, RUN!!! We had takeout the first week they were open. The food was better than the previous operation. 6 months later we wanted to have a NICE sit down dinner, which is hard to find in Kingman. 7pm on a friday, the place was almost empty, we were immediately seated right next to the noisy kitchen, then abandoned for about 15 minutes. Finally the guy who sat us came back appearing all stressed, or speeding his brains out, and asked us for our order, and if we'd like something to drink. I wished for a beer, but apparently after at least 6 months in operation, they haven't been able to obtain a simple restaurant alcohol license. The half of the restaurant that used to be the bar was dark, closed and empty. My wife was in the mood for some Mongolian beef, and always goes for the hot and sour soup when we do Chinese. The lit up sign out front says American Chinese and Sushi. Looking through the 80 some odd item menu, I saw zero mentions of sushi, so I asked...Nope, no sushi either. Ok, no booze from bar, and no sushi in restaurant advertising sushi. We're off to a great start here! Still not sure what I want now, I questioned our waiter about the special on the board in the entrance. It was listed as salt and pepper crab. So I ask, what is it, is it real crab, fake crab, stir fry, what? He says, it's real crab, but you can't chew it! I was lost, and communication with this guy was as well. I decided on some shrimp something or other, and ordered the wife her Mongolian beef along with some rangoons which were pretty good on our original take out order, and made sure we also got some hot and sour soup. Drinks? No beer, no cocktails...we asked for water. Another 10 minutes or so later after watching this guy chase his tail around an almost empty restaurant, he shows up with some of the chunkiest hot and sour soup I've ever seen. Interesting, but it looked good. I take a spoonful, and immediately a word comes to mind. The wife takes her first spoonful, looks at me and says the same thing I hadn't said yet because I thought it was just me. Apparently when we asked for soup, he must have thought we said soap. It was tainted with dish detergent! Not sure how that whole issue might have come to be, or how it could even happen, but I wasn't willing to risk our lives on god only knows what might end up contaminating the rest of our meal. Needless to say, we were out of there. I don't expect this place to be around for much longer, and...
Read morePortions are getting smaller! Much less "meat" being used! For example, I get the special fried rice. Supposed to have pieces of chicken, beef, and pork in it. There was maybe 5 small pieces of chicken, was no beef at all, and had a few small cubes of the pork! There used to be large pieces of the meat, but now there were NONE! So they charge a high price for fried rice without meat! And what's their problem when you ask for hot mustard? They say they don't have any packets or tubs, but just tiny cups hardly containing any mustard, and what it does contain is very thin liquid hot mustard. More like a mustard wash. Tastes horrible because they make it there! And then they only give you 1 cup for your entire dinner! If you want more than 1 cup, they charge you extra for it!
When Lin's was first sold, the new owners kept the menu but downsized the portions and raised the prices. Then when they converted to Asian Star, the menu was changed and I couldn't get some of the things I used to order, but portions increased in size, and in price, AGAIN. Then, they changed it to a Chinese seafood restaurant, and more of the things I like went by the wayside. And, of course, the prices went up again! Then recently, things changed one more time, this time for the worst! (It would really help if the person taking your order spoke English!)(Try asking for a bag of crispy noodles! You'll see what I mean!) So, I'm now considering if it's worth it to buy anything there!
So, I guess everyone will have to decide for themselves. Just be prepared to spend a lot of money on rice as they don't provide much meat with the rice. And if your meal is supposed to come with steamed rice, or noodles, or something else extra, make sure it's in the bag before you leave! One more thing, if you order anything with shrimp you have a 50/50 chance the shrimp will be undercooked (looks milky), or overcooked (becomes rubbery). Very bad for a "seafood" restaurant when the chef can't cook shrimp properly! I won't be going back unless I just want a quart of fried rice to...
Read moreWe called ahead to see if an egg allergy could be accomodated. We were told absolutely, they have lots of stuff with no egg.
When we got there we found out all meat is marinated in egg, so our original order for our daughter got changed to steamed veggies and fried rice without egg. They randomly started bring out food without making sure our toddler had food. Like egg drop soup, and shrimp appetizer, which we weren't told had egg until it was at thebtable, even though we asked to know ahead of time.
Everything sat on the table getting cold for about 10 minutes before they came and said they could not make the fried rice without egg because it was sticking to the pan, so we were no closer to getting any food for our daughter, all of our food has sat out getting cold, untouched. They refused to let us just pay for our drinks that we had drank, and had been empty and never got refilled.
When we were then told they couldn't do the food for our daughter.... They expected payment for everything. Even though we didn't eat anything and wanted to just leave, and couldn't get any food for our daughter.
When we told the waiter we just wanted to leave he walked away and we waited several more minutes. So we threw $35 on the table with all of the untouched food that had been sitting getting cold and walked out. The waiter came out to our car and said we needed to pay in full.
What a nightmare experience. Absolutely inconsiderate. When a family with a toddler comes in, you don't bring everyone's food out but the toddler's, especially when they can't eat any of it because it...
