Bias: spent almost 20 years in TX.

It's pretty much as I expected. Reasonable food, but cooked and spiced like they'd once heard of Mexican or Tex Mex food a long time ago.

It's edible, but there are better choices in the area.

I'd love for them to be good. I'll still probably head back one more time to try some different dishes, but here's the take from one meal.

  1. Chimichanga was good on the protein quantity, and had reasonable flavor. Was soft, no crunch at all. It had clearly been fried, but either not long enough or it had been left long enough to sog out. It also only had protein in it -- no other mix ins. Not enough cheese sauce.

  2. Salsa is just crushed tomatoes and a little bit of cilantro, at least from taste. Needs salt, acid (lime, pickled jalapenos), more cilantro, onion, potentially a splash of broth/stock, fire roasting the tomatoes, peppers, just anything to bring more flavor.

Hopefully the nachos and fajitas will be better next time I stop by. If it's not better, I likely will not return again

Second visit:

Steak fajitas were very overcooked (very, very grey) and dry, tasted slightly of lime. I suspect they're marinated in something acidic (probably lime), and that greatly degrades the texture. It comes apart in sheds/pulp with gentle pressure. The vegetables served with the fajita were massively under cooked, crunchy and not caramelized.

Salsa is still very tomato heavy, but better than some other salsas in the area. Needs tomato char, cilantro, more onion, garlic. It does have some flavor, but it's just overwhelmingly one note of tomato.

I appreciate that they are trying Mexican in St. Louis, but it's just not good and I'm...

The wife and I stopped in at Amigos for an early dinner simply because of the margarita flights! We always like to try something new and someone else suggested the margarita flights and we were NOT disappointed. Margarita flavors Ive never had were amazing!

We ordered and shared one plate of food because neither were very hungry. We shared the Amigos Taco Puffs. We had one beef and one chicken. The taco puff shell is similar to that of a fried taco salad bowl, but in taco shape. The shells are great! Then chicken and taco puffs were Served with black beans, rice, guacamole and sour cream! The chicken was amazing! The beef.... not so much. The beef was dried out like it had been microwaved and was tough.

No condiments, salt/pepper, etc are in the tables and you have to ask for it.

The atmosphere was top notch! Table, booth, and outdoor seating are available.

Parking is easy right in front, or there is a free parking lot right across the street.

I give Amigos 8.75 out of 10 overall.

What could be better: -Waitress could come around a little more often to check on people.

-Seasonings and condiments being available on the table would be nice so you dont have to wait for a waitress or go find one.

-I suggest finding an alternative way of heating the beef so that it...

My husband got food poisoning on Wednesday. He missed work Thursday because he was dying ya know. Now my child has caught it (yes food poisoning can be contagious and caused by a virus) so now this one tasteless dinner has essentially ruined half the week and our weekend. It was the carnita meat my husband is 175% sure of it. If you have ever had the joy of having food poisoning you know that you know what it was that did it to you. We thought it looked dry and it had zero flavor but he was hungry. I know they want the food to be appeasing to people with no taste buds I won’t name any races here but ya know what I mean but a little seasoning goes a long way. When we finished our meal we all looked at each other and said “well that tasted like absolutely nothing” save your money time and health if you want REAL Mexican food go to Cherokee street or there is an amazing place just down Lindbergh and 55 in the Home Depot plaza. Amigos employees wash your hands and practice safe food handling! Thanks for ruining our week and making us lose a day of pay. I have no idea have you even have 4 stars your client population is insane and must like...

Venue: Nice interior, small patio. I’d recommend sitting inside, though it does get pretty noisy. Chips/Salsa: The chips and salsa both taste fresh, but the salsa has very little flavor. It mostly tastes like plain tomatoes – not nearly enough cilantro, onions, or other spices. Food: The chimichanga has queso on top as is expected, but it’s not queso blanco like most places have. It’s more of a small portion of yellowish cheese sauce that wasn’t particular good. I had hoped to substitute corn cake for my side of beans (since it’s cheaper anyway), but they said the only substitution I could do was more rice, so I did that. Margaritas: My traditional margarita was pretty good, but I would have preferred it to be served in a traditional glass with salted rim. My wife got a frozen strawberry margarita and said it tastes artificial – clearly from a pre-mix. Service: Fine overall, but I ordered a beer halfway through my meal which never came. My waitress said she saw it get poured and then it disappeared. Oh well. Overall: Not bad, but the search for our go-to Mexican restaurant will continue.

1) Very clean restaurant 2) OUTSTANDING service 3) the food was sooo good that we went two days in a row 4)the mango smoothie is FANTASTIC.I highly recommend Amigos Cantina for the aforementioned reasons. The pictures are from both days. We went once on a Friday for lunch and the next day for dinner. I had the steak fajitas both times. My hubby had the 3 amigos fajitas the first time and something seafood the second time. We are in love with Amigos Cantina.. If you like spicy salsa, ask for their habenero salsa- mix it with the salsa they initially provide and you will be so very delighted with the flavors.
