We met a friend here and had a party of 5 altogether. We started at the bar with a couple of drinks that were top notch! Hubby had a rum and coke and I had a white russian. From there we were seated upstairs in table by the window. The seating was spacious and pleasant.
As a group we ordered 2 appetizers for 2 and split them. Everyone raved about the mushrooms being to die for (I don't care for mushrooms and didn't try them). I enjoyed the toasted ravioli and the onion ring.
I ordered the ribeye with a baked potato and salad with mayfair dressing. I liked that the salad had cucumbers and black olives - yum! Then the steak came out. This is a big steak - 18oz. The sear was perfect, there were lil crispy edges and perfect marbling. Now I'm an A1 sauce girl, yes even at an upscale restaurant. But I tore into that steak and the next thing I knew it was almost gone! It was AMAZING! One of the best steaks I've ever eaten! The baked potato is nothing to rave about. It's cooked very plainly, no salt or anything on the outside... it's cut and all the toppings are on the side. Which meant they didn't melt into it very easily. I won't order that set up again... I'd really prefer a sweet potato but that is not an option here.
Hubby got the pork chop which is massive! He said it was cooked perfect. I tasted it and it was very tender. However neither of us loved the sauce that came with it...
My MIL ordered the salmon and I tried it and it was delicious. The sauce was the perfect compliment to the salmon.
We ended the night with a chocolate chip cheesecake to share and I added a chocolate martini. The cheesecake was creamy and delicious and something different than you normally see. The martini was perfection as a dessert!
Service was top notch all night long. 2 people at our table shared a steak and they cut it and plated it separately which is a nice touch. Drinks stayed filled, leftovers were boxed and we felt...
Read moreCitizen Kane's has been our birthday tradition for years. We were so excited to go back after missing last year due to COVID. We ordered the Filet, very rare. It came and there was not a speck of pink anywhere. Medium Well at best. We told the waitress (who was fantastic) and she sent the manager over. He grabbed the plates and then in a very loud voice announced that they "looked perfect to me". He then spent the next several minutes badmouthing us to other employees while he was behind the bar. (I'm not sure if he didn't realize how his voice travelled, or whether it was intentional.). While we were waiting for our correctly cooked steaks a gentleman in a wheelchair came in saying they had a reservation. The same manager, in the same loud voice, told him that he understood he wanted a first floor table, but he would have to wait because we were sitting at his table. Mind you, we never asked to be on the first floor, and prefer the upper floor. When the gentleman asked how long the wait might be the manger responded "whenever they decide to leave". Needless to say, this made us feel uncomfortable and rushed. When our steaks were delivered to the table, the manager shoved them at us without a word, and the plate contained none of the presentation drizzle that is usually present. The second steaks were cooked correctly, but by this time all of our sides were cold. It was an unfortunate experience.
I have been told by others that the quality of meals and service have diminished greatly since the son took over the restaurant. Sadly, that seems to be true. I will miss our annual (and in between) trips to Citizen Kane's, but we probably...
Read moreNot a 5-star. We have wanted to try Citizen's for some time. The 45-minute drive after work was the hold up. Appetizers lack imagination, we passed. Salads - one looked lovely, the other was drenched in way too much of their Mayfair dressing (claimed to be lighter than a Caesar however it was thicker and more anchovy tasting to us). Side dishes - again with lack of imagination - order the baked potato or beans if you go - our public potatoes and mashed didn't taste great. Mashed looked like instant (consistency of cream of wheat and tasted instant). Steak, ordered it MEDIUM - glad I second guessed at this point because it came MEDIUM RARE. Most steak places will undercook a steak because it can be placed back on the grill. We usually order it M.R. - so we were in good shape there. No mixed drink menu - so we passed. We did have dessert - chocolate cake (server informed us it no longer was brought in but made there) and coffee (strong which we like), the cake was wonderful - single sheet cake kind of thing but it tasted homemade including the frosting. We'll not be making the 45 minute drive again - better steak places closer to home - but we both admit service was excellent - felt like we were put in an 'old people' room though (chuckle). Just to the right of the Hostess is a small room where they squeezed 4 tables into - which was okay - the police showing up at the parking lot across the street as well as watching the free valet was entertaining. They had vinyl coverings over the tables - guess it saves them on linen cleaning - set a bad...
