I went in today to the Kirkwood store to order a cake for my grandmother's 80th birthday. When I said I had a cake order and asked if it was possible to do a cake by next Saturday, the woman seemed annoyed. She started to take my order, asked the usual questions. I gave her a picture of the cake and she said she didn't know how to write up the design. She asked me what I call it. I had no idea how to respond. I asked for a sheet cake and the picture I had was a cake design looked like a birthday present, except instead of a frosting bow, it had traditional roses. She kept saying she didn't know what to call it. I said I don't think it matters, you have the picture. call it roses and polka dots. Then she said I don't know how to describe it or what to write. So I said you know I'll just go somewhere else. Her response "Ok thank you. Sorry". Really? I took my business elsewhere and that bakery didn't seem to have an issue figuring out how to write up my order. I'm completely astonished by this type of service. I've done business with McArthur's for catering and cakes for the last 4 years. I know they are quite popular, but keep in mind there are plenty of other bakeries. I've been really excited to plan this party and getting the cake decorated at Mcarthurs is what I had in mind. When I got there one staff member was very rude to me acting like me wanting to place an order was a bother. She seemed to think it was ridiculous that i wanted to try the flavor of cake before buying it. Luckily the lady who did help me was nice and helpful. If it wasn't for her I would have walked out. Then later I called to change my order that day to a different size cake and was put on hold for 10 minutes then hung up on. When I asked to have the frosting changed, they said no, we only make that cake one way. Ok, so I’ll order a custom cake, half chocolate, half white cake with all buttercream frosting. They said no, we can only do a half and half cake as a sheet cake (even tho they have a round tiered choc/white cake in the case). So unhelpful.
