UPDATE: after the business replied we should try to get there earlier, we tried it again. Got there around 9:15 and waited in the long line near the back of the store. It was about 35 minutes until we got to the counter. You can hear all the disappointed groans when everyone sees them cross off the items on the menu that they are out of. When we finally got to the register, no hello or anything. Just a blank stare. My wife asked if the donuts she wanted were still available since a whole tray was sitting out- Kellene said those were for preorders. My wife said, “Oh ok I figured preorders would’ve been packed away already.” and Kellene rolled her eyes and snapped back that she hasn’t had time. My wife said her order and Kellene printed out the order slip without asking if that was all. I still needed to order. I don’t know if she’s always like this or just frustrated this morning but it’s a bad personality for a customer-facing job. My wife said since we’ve tried this place a few times, never could get the donut she really wanted, and with the cashier Kellene being rude to customers, we won’t come back again.
Original: We HAD to try this donut place that popped up since we last visited Maine. Unfortunately, there were only 6 kinds left when we showed up an hour before closing, but that’s on us. My wife got the lemon poppyseed and I got the regular glazed. Great donuts, very kind staff, quick service. A very cool place for a quick bite! We will be returning, for sure, and will make sure to arrive a bit earlier. I really want to try the...
Read moreExcellent donuts and lattes but their customer service is terrible. We like to stop early in the morning on the way to the beach and arrive around the time they open or shortly thereafter, so it’s not yet that busy. Each of the last three times we have stood at the register being completely ignored while the cashier, or in a few instances two associates, went about making someone else’s order (not sure why with multiple people, someone can’t be dedicated to the register). Customer Service 101, and I can speak to it because I’ve worked customer-facing jobs myself: Acknowledge someone who is waiting. A quick “I’ll be with you in just a moment!” goes a long way. And when they finally decide to help you? Not even a smile and certainly no kind of apology or extension of gratitude regarding the wait. It’s pretty clear they don’t want to be there which is in direct opposition to the cheerful, fun vibe Lovebirds portrays online. We’ll still go because vegan donut shops are nonexistent around here but frankly, they need to hire staff who can fake it at minimum. Some of us are going out of our way to visit for a special treat and they kill the vibes almost immediately. Last year when we visited for the first time it was much more pleasant so not sure what has happened aside from...
Read moreEdit to the owners response: I am not basing my review on a poor quality pallet here. I am not comparing these donuts to chain donuts. I don't eat that garbage. We support local real ingredients. Something isn't right when your cocoa doesn't taste like chocolate, clearly. Chai tea is a frequent order of mine, I make it from scratch as well. I understand good chai and what it's supposed to taste like. I've even had it prepared many different ways. If it's bad it's bad. I'm only giving my honest review as a person who is disappointed when I am served poor quality food, especially when the expectation is so high. Instead of taking it personally, look at how to improve. Or don't. Personally I think growth is good, keeping an open mind is good.
To be honest, the donuts are not good. The flavor is lacking and dough is just okay.
Ordered the boston cream donut, and regular glazed. The chocolate doesn't taste like chocolate, it takes like sugar without chocolate flavor. We didn't finish it, and that's saying a lot because we love pastries.
Seems like they are just relying on the cute aesthetic.
Chai tea was also really bad. Tasted very synthetic and way too sweet. Instant heartburn.
Expensive for poor quality pastries and drinks.
The person at the counter was very kind...
