I gave this restaurant a second try, and I'm glad I did.
SERVICE On a previous visit I didn't have the best luck with service and never got a chance to order, but today was very different. My server came to take my order withing a few minutes of sitting down and the food came out hot and fresh shortly after. My server came back around with some spicy powder to add to my dish, but I am the weakest of weaklings, so I said "no" very quickly!
STARTERS The egg rolls (more like fried spring rolls in nearby Asian restaurants, based on the thinner, crispier wrapping) were very good. There are 3 to an order and they come with a very tasty fish sauce that made me think of a Thai-equivalent to Chinese duck sauce, but with the tiniest bit of a kick.
MAIN MEAL The Pad See U (Pad See Ew) may have been the most flavorful I've had in a long time and certainly the best I've had in Knoxville. Pad See U is not on the lunch menu, so I got the dinner-size portion, which was enough for me to take some home for lunch tomorrow.
NOTE: The menu in the restaurant is not quite the same as the menu I looked at on their website.
SUSHI I did not get sushi this visit, but I watched some being made and the chef looked very competent as she worked. I will be sure to update my review once I try it.
PRICE Based on the portion size, I believe this meal was reasonably priced. The lunch menu runs between $13-15 and includes a small bowl of soup. With a non-alcoholic drink, tax, and tip, you will probably leave with your wallet about $20-25 lighter. My budget can't handle that price every day for lunch, but, as an East Knox Countian, saving on gas and time by not having to drive to Turkey Creek...
Read moreMy wife and I have been coming to this location when it was Surin of Thailand we’ve always been a big fan of their yellow chicken curry, and we were devastated when they closed. We were told by our waitress that a lot of the same employees still work at this location and we were pleasantly surprised when the food came out exactly how we remembered it.
I never had a problem with the service at Surin but the service at spice is on an entirely different level. We were seated very quickly, and our food came out soon after we ordered our waitress was very attentive, making sure that our waters were filled, and we never had to ask for anything, but she was never overbearing. By the time we were starting to slow down and needed to go boxes, our waitress promptly walked up and asked if we needed some. She then bagged all of her to go boxes and tied it up and had our entire table cleared up with the Bill ready to go before I even realized.
Spice Thai and sushi has better customer service than some very high-end restaurants. I’ve been to definitely would recommend and will be coming here many times in the near future. Thank you you spice...
Read moreThe restaurant is nice and the sushi is good. The food is mediocre. The service absolutely was horrible. I stood for at least 5 minutes waiting for someone to sit me down. They walked past me and looked at me multiple times not even acknowledging that I was standing there. Finally a server came and asked me how many people and there was a lady sitting down that informed them she was already waiting for a table for 2 and they seemed confused and didn’t know what to do. Finally we got sat down and it literally took 10 minutes before someone even came and said something to us. Assumed we wanted water and just was like you want water ok and took off as we were trying to say no we want soda. Finally got our soda and no straws. Finally got to order and got our sushi with no chopsticks had to ask for those as well. Ordered a soup that I never received ended up just cancelling it. The people are nice but the...
