First time checking out this spot and we had to do take out. I was pleasantly surprised how fast the food was prepared and it was packaged very well.
The broth was still hot enough to add to the ramen and not have to do any additional heating. I had the Blaze ramen with spicy level. At first I thought it wasn't that spicy but then I found the ball of spice and mixed it all up. After that it was a good heat of spice. I have a high tolerance of spice so it met my expectations. The egg was perfectly cooked where it was still runny, even for take out! The chashu was thick and tender, which I really liked.
I tried the broth for the garlic truffle and it was a rich and creamy flavor I enjoyed. I'd want to get that next time.
We paid the $1.95 for the ghost pepper kimchi and it was a little container of it. It wasn't that spicy compared to my Blaze ramen so I wouldn't recommend it.
We also got the chicken karaage and for being take out, it was still delicious. It wasn't that crispy since it was in a container so we could've thrown that in an air fryer to make it crispy. It was still good regardless.
The interior was very nice when I went inside to pick up the food. Their outdoor dining space is covered on the side as well with plenty of seating. The parking lot is a bit small but at least they have one.
I would love to come back and dine in when I come back to visit SoCal from the Bay Area. This was one of the better ramen spots I've had compared to...
Read moreThe food was pretty good at first. Ordered a bowl of the garlic truffle Ramen. Broth seemed decent enough. But by the time I was getting to the bottom half of the bowl, I noticed there was large chunks of peppercorn hiding under the noodles. I'm not sure who would enjoy that or thought it would be a good idea to have that in Ramen. It was hard to avoid the peppercorns, too hot and you get unpleasant bursts of "flavor" as they become unstuck in your gums on your way home. For a $17+ bowl of Ramen not including tip, this is a little bit unacceptable.
Also my next concern was the meat portion. It was just one piece of pork. While it was quite good, it was seared on only one side to almost a crisp. It was a little bigger than the average slice of chasu but disappointing there wasn't a little more considering the premium price. Also something of note, there was hardly any other traditional Ramen ingredients. Just a piece of pork, noodles, half an egg. Then some pieces of kale? And the awful peppercorns. There was some tasty sautéed mushrooms though.
Can't say I left feeling very satisfied with the food or value but it was still pretty good. Just a few glaring issues. The location was a little rundown, I'm not sure how they're justifying the premium pricing. This is a growing chain so you're supporting an out of touch entrepreneur. I would come back but I'd recommend being wary or knowing what...
Read moreI used to visit Silver Lake ramen frequently with friends and family I even celebrated my birthday here once with a large group …unfortunately I won’t be coming back here anymore. I did my first takeout order with Silverlake Ramen and I asked for 3 containers of the chili oil sauce that they give for FREE on the tables and they said I would have to pay money if I want the chili oil sauce “to go”, and I explained it’s free on the tables I can get as much as I want!! and they said yes but if I take it “to go” they will charge me, I had spent over $120 worth of food “to go”. I just wanted a couple chili sauces, and I understand they have a “policy”, but I don’t agree with this policy , and I think it’s ridiculous that they are willing to give me all the chili sauce I want for free if I dine in, but if I order “take out”, I have to pay for each individual chili sauce container. And in addition the waitress that was helping me seemed very irritated from the beginning all the way to the end , I will take my business elsewhere. I think I will try the Ultra Ramen restaurant...
