The restaurant's attention to detail begins with when you order the bread basket, which arrives with a side of rich truffle butter.    Read moreWe love supporting local businesses and thought this would be the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary as we love Italian food and we love La Mesa. I requested to sit outside and said we were celebrating our anniversary when I made my reservation. We were not seated outside and there were no âhappy anniversaryâ wishes. I know that may seem silly but itâs small touches like that that are important. We were seated inside which was very loud. The decor and ambiance is beautiful. We loved it. It took awhile for anyone to come to our table and we had to ask for water multiple times. Eventually a manager brought us some. Our server was very hard to understand, seemed scattered and overwhelmed and even forgot what I had ordered (10 minutes after we ordered she had to bring me a menu again so I could point to it). Maybe if she hadn't stood with her arms folded across her chest when I was ordering and instead wrote it down that wouldn't have happened. I will say that the food is outstanding. Truly. We started with the fried calamari which also came with shrimp and octopus and white fish. It was excellent. We were not given plates with our appetizer though and had to ask for them. My husband got the chicken and he said it was incredible. I got the rigatoni (though they werenât rigatoni) with sausage, tomatoes, broccolini, garlic and white wine- so much flavor. Delicious. I understand itâs a new business and they may still be working out the kinks but the service definitely needs some work. My husband summed it up best. He said âthe food alone is worth itâ but I honestly wish we chose somewhere else to celebrate our...
Read moreMy family and I went to celebrate my brother's birthday. (Party of 6) Made the 5pm reservation, told hostess about the birthday with three weeks in advance. We were seated right away. Place was getting full (a bit noisy) but nothing to bad, understandable since it's a very small restaurant. Our server was "Roberto" started off nice, he told us the specials of the day (never mentioned the price), then he took the drink order, that's when things changed. My husband asked: can you suggest a mocktail since I'm the designated driver. He said No mocktails, he insisted that he order a cocktail, he even said one drink won't hurt your driving, by the end of your meal you will be fine. We insisted he didn't want a cocktail, asked what other beverages they had, he kept pointing at the cocktail menu, ended up getting a Moscow mule (no alcohol) just for him to keep taking the order for the others. Then he suggested bread, we said yes he brought two baskets ($5 each). Foccaccia was good, the other plain bread nothing to brag about (included a tiny piece of butter) We told him we were ready to order, he insisted on appetizers, I said just bring the portobello mushroom ($19) we ordered ceasar salads and our main dish. He said "mmm, one portobello... let's see who gets to try it, between six" Food came out, it was good. The only thing that really made an impression was the portobello and the ceasar salads. After that, he lost interest in our table. Never offered dessert, coffee, never celebrated the birthday. Just brought the check so we would pay....
