Limoncello La Mesa is a culinary gem in La Mesa, California, that offers an exceptional dining experience. From the moment you step inside, you'll be greeted with warm hospitality and welcoming smiles from the staff. The restaurant's inviting ambiance, complete with elegant decor and soft lighting, sets the tone for a delightful evening. One of the standout aspects of Limoncello La Mesa is its exceptional customer service. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. They take the time to explain the dishes, offer recommendations, and ensure that every detail of your visit is tailored to your preferences. The servers are friendly and efficient, making sure your glass is always full and your plate is never empty. The restaurant's attention to detail begins with when you order the bread basket, which arrives with a side of rich truffle butter. This indulgent touch elevates the simple act of bread-eating to a new level. The truffle butter's creamy texture and deep, earthy flavor perfectly complement the warm, crusty bread, making it a delightful start to your meal. For the main course, the Pappardelle with Meatballs and Rib is a must-try. This dish is a masterclass in rich, satisfying flavors and textures. The pappardelle noodles are cooked to a perfect al dente, while the meatballs are tender, juicy, and exploding with flavor. The slow-braised rib adds a delightful tender element, all of which is tied together by a rich, savory sauce. If you're a steak lover, be sure to check the specials menu for their exceptional steak options. Limoncello La Mesa sources high-quality meat, cooked to perfection, and presented with a side of garlic butter and herbs. The steak is cooked exactly to your liking, with a nice sear on the outside and a tender, pink interior. In addition to these standout dishes, Limoncello La Mesa also offers a variety of other Italian-inspired options, including antipasti, insalate, and risotto. Each dish is carefully crafted Do yourself a favor and order the stuffed portobello appetizer with the red wine reduction sauce to start your meal!

My family and I went to celebrate my brother's birthday. (Party of 6) Made the 5pm reservation, told hostess about the birthday with three weeks in advance. We were seated right away. Place was getting full (a bit noisy) but nothing to bad, understandable since it's a very small restaurant. Our server was "Roberto" started off nice, he told us the specials of the day (never mentioned the price), then he took the drink order, that's when things changed. My husband asked: can you suggest a mocktail since I'm the designated driver. He said No mocktails, he insisted that he order a cocktail, he even said one drink won't hurt your driving, by the end of your meal you will be fine. We insisted he didn't want a cocktail, asked what other beverages they had, he kept pointing at the cocktail menu, ended up getting a Moscow mule (no alcohol) just for him to keep taking the order for the others. Then he suggested bread, we said yes he brought two baskets ($5 each). Foccaccia was good, the other plain bread nothing to brag about (included a tiny piece of butter) We told him we were ready to order, he insisted on appetizers, I said just bring the portobello mushroom ($19) we ordered ceasar salads and our main dish. He said "mmm, one portobello... let's see who gets to try it, between six" Food came out, it was good. The only thing that really made an impression was the portobello and the ceasar salads. After that, he lost interest in our table. Never offered dessert, coffee, never celebrated the birthday. Just brought the check so we would pay. Out you go 🙃

I’ll start this review by saying that I had been wanting to visit this place for a long time, and finally, my friends and I came here for an evening out. We really love Italian cuisine, so we were excited to try it. We ordered the spaghetti carbonara, and to be honest, I was disappointed with the experience. My expectations were much higher. For some reason, I thought this would be a high-end place with amazing food. Unfortunately, the spaghetti was poorly prepared — the bacon pieces were unusually large, and worst of all, the dish was extremely salty. It was almost inedible, and I didn’t even finish half of my portion. My friend didn’t either. Our partners ate theirs but also agreed it was too salty. I also tried the lava cake, one of my favorite desserts, and I was disappointed again. I’ve had lava cake in many different places and countries, and this was far from the best. I didn’t enjoy it and ended up not finishing it either. As for the wine — we had some, and despite the relatively high price, it wasn’t enjoyable either. What I did like was the interior — it’s nicely designed. The menu also has some interesting options, and the service was actually quite good. But the most important part of any restaurant is the food, and unfortunately, that was the biggest letdown here. So overall, it was a disappointing experience for me.

We love supporting local businesses and thought this would be the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary as we love Italian food and we love La Mesa. I requested to sit outside and said we were celebrating our anniversary when I made my reservation. We were not seated outside and there were no “happy anniversary” wishes. I know that may seem silly but it’s small touches like that that are important. We were seated inside which was very loud. The decor and ambiance is beautiful. We loved it. It took awhile for anyone to come to our table and we had to ask for water multiple times. Eventually a manager brought us some. Our server was very hard to understand, seemed scattered and overwhelmed and even forgot what I had ordered (10 minutes after we ordered she had to bring me a menu again so I could point to it). Maybe if she hadn't stood with her arms folded across her chest when I was ordering and instead wrote it down that wouldn't have happened. I will say that the food is outstanding. Truly. We started with the fried calamari which also came with shrimp and octopus and white fish. It was excellent. We were not given plates with our appetizer though and had to ask for them. My husband got the chicken and he said it was incredible. I got the rigatoni (though they weren’t rigatoni) with sausage, tomatoes, broccolini, garlic and white wine- so much flavor. Delicious. I understand it’s a new business and they may still be working out the kinks but the service definitely needs some work. My husband summed it up best. He said “the food alone is worth it” but I honestly wish we chose somewhere else to celebrate our...
