Great stuff! I've always been super picky about my own interests, and haven't ever had a place I could name off the top of my head that I felt was a great outlet for what I like. Normally when I go into vinyl/video stores, I'm not expecting much and ESPECIALLY when it comes to horror. Feeling like it's a severely neglected genre, I was totally blown away by this place.
The modern, recent stuff was kept to a comfortable minimum. LOTS of really awesome low budget horror, ghost movies, splatter films, gore in general, etc and the selection is far from underwhelming! The prices are pretty great. Splatter film rec's and browsability has always been left to the grapevine, so having a place that's got tons of it was really touching. Quickly became one of my favorite spots!! I picked up a bunch of crystal case Saw movies I'd been meaning to replace, and decided to take a leap & grab Splatter (2022). I ended up loving it & getting invested in the writers other films, & can't wait to go back to pick up some other titles!
The actual store is super homey. I caught myself in the 'dad watching tv' stance when I noticed they had stuff playing on a couple of old VCR tv's. Everythings just kind of Around, but EXTREMELY well organized. Finding band shirts from a bunch of guys I've never heard of was a first and I loved it. The music going on there is always fantastic. First time I've ever discovered stuff I like from an overhead speaker in a store lol. Their taste is insanely good & I can't recommend it enough to people who like splatter, general horror, noise & metal music, etc. You won't be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is seriously amazing. Yeah, thereās a few other record shops in San Diego, and theyāre great if youāre looking for Fleetwood Mac records stained with spilt bong water. If we wanted a better selection, we had to take the 2 1/2 hour drive to LA or try to get out of work on a Saturday for the record swap at The Casbah. It was like a man adrift on a cold, grey sea; his dinghy taking on water faster than he can bail it out. Then, suddenly on the horizon land appeared. Green and lush; a beautiful native girl welcoming you to their beautiful town. That town is Re-Animated records. That native girl is Nick, the owner.
The shop is deceptively small, but it is absolutely PACKED with rad stuff. First and foremost is the vinyl, but they also carry used and new DVD & BD, VHS, cassettes and laserdiscs. The walls are decked with some seriously killer film postersāsome for sale, some from Nickās private collection. As if thatās not enough, they also carry t-shirts, votive candles featuring everyone from Lemmy to Morrissey and a bunch of other amazing stuff.
Itās only been open for about a year, but itās already a San...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHow lucky are we to have a local record store that is geared towards horror and metal?
Friggin love this place. I donāt make it there as often as I would like, but when I do go Iām definitely fond of checking out their horror Blu-rays, and those little magnets that look like movie posters, not to mention the Garbage Pail kid magnets: totally clutch. They even helped me out with a Spinal Tap action figure for my white elephant party.
I believe itās the owner, but the big dude with the long hair and his wife who run the place are so amazing, super helpful and easy to talk to you if you need help on anything. I saw a post from a month ago, where it looks like somebody had a bad experience there. But I think they were just having a bad day (The reviewer, not the record...
