We all know La Mesa is lacking in a variety of awesome breakfast joints, & I was really hoping Sheldon's would be a place that my husband & I could be excited about.
Got the chilaquiles, which was a plate of chips, about 8 black beans, 2 eggs, salsa Verde, & some cilantro on top. Hands down, the worst "chilaquiles" I've ever had. For $11, I expect a mound of beans (or some meat/soyrizo), at least, because nobody likes eating corn chips without anything to dip them in. Throw some sour cream & avocado slices on it too! Raise the price to $13. I'd pay for that. But $11 for essentially a plate of chips and 2 eggs, no way. What a joke.
Also, the quinoa was a joke. A bowl of quinoa, with 10 blueberries on top! What a boring concept. At least get a little creative with the quinoa.
Update: To whomever from Sheldon's wrote the response to my review, I'm now even more disappointed with Sheldon's. That is a horrible way to respond to a customer who's not happy about the food. My order was take out, got home and noticed how awful it was. I'm not going to drive all the way back to Sheldon's to talk to the management. I'd absolutely LOVE to see the reviews that people left regarding the chilaquiles and quinoa. I honestly don't understand how anyone can think those items were good. Did we end up with a cook that didn't care and missed out on adding stuff that should have been included?
Regarding prices, the pricing is not comparable to other restaurants serving those items with even more ingredients at the same price point. Like I said in my earlier review, I'd have gladly paid more if that meant including more ingredients. Seriously, chilaquiles comes with a lot more than a plate of tortilla chips a few black beans, salsa, & eggs.
I have worked in the restaurant business, and as management in a few other customer service-oriented jobs, and I would never have responded to a customer the way I was just responded to. A word of advice, make your customers happy when stuff is wrong. It can go a LONG way. Being rude, like the response was, is not going to win anyone back. Something like, "I'm sorry to hear this happened. We would love the opportunity to make it up to you." Follow up with a gift card, or some other thing to make the customer happy. Don't do this defensive stuff below about how amazing Sheldon's is and how my husband & I must just be wrong b/c everyone seems to love it. That not only looks bad to me, but to others reading it. I really hope you do the right...
Read moreMy husband was in a long line here this morning. He decided to call the order in while he was waiting in line. Simple: scrambled eggs with toast and a chorizo bowl. He gets home and we open the bag and there is only one box inside with some flat egg thing, not scrambled, with untoasted, unbuttered bread. No chorizo bowl! My meal, if you could even call it that, was disgusting. Cold flat egg patty thing, indescribably bad and some bread, total joke of a meal. And no chorizo bowl!
Instead of writing this I tried to call and speak to the manager. His demeanor was unwelcoming, blase, passive aggressive and did not seem interested whatsoever. He always seems this way. Not even sure he's the manager, barely wanted to give me his name. Disinterested, unprofessional sounding. I just had to hang up since it was obvious we weren't going to get anywhere.
The food here is never good - that's a given - but the atmosphere is fantastic. Work on the food and service please - especially the food! So few options in the village. This place should be great but it's just a mess every...
Read moreI recently went to Sheldon's Service Station with my wife and had an amazing time. I ordered the Chorizo Bowl, which included hash browns, chorizo scrambled eggs, cotija cheese, pico de gallo, green onions, sour cream, and house-made chipotle salsa. My wife ordered the Breakfast Burrito, which she had previously enjoyed. The eggs, bacon, hash browns, green onion, diced tomato, and cheddar cheese were wrapped in a spinach tortilla and served with a side of house-made chipotle salsa and seasonal fruit.
We also ordered coffee, with me getting a cortado and my wife getting a cookie latte from the special menu. Both were delicious and expertly brewed. The service was also excellent, with the staff being extremely friendly and accommodating.
Sheldon's Service Station is a must-visit if you're looking for a great breakfast spot in La Mesa. You can't go wrong with this restaurant's delicious food, great coffee, and friendly service. I highly recommend it and will...
