Rita's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard — Restaurant in La Plata

Very great service however I was extremely disappointed with the gelati. I’ve been going to different Ritas locations for many years and I was excited to have one nearby however, the last 3 times I’ve been to this location I’ve been dissatisfied. The first time the custard was gritty I’m guessing because it wasn’t mixed properly and the other two times the ice was chunky and I had to break it apart with the spoon to eat it. At other locations the ice is smooth and not chunky. Everytime I get ice here there is hardly any flavor in the lemon ice and they haven’t had normal cherry ice. I want to keep coming back but I don’t know if I can based off the past three times...

If I could give 0 stars I would. I went there today with my two year old son and ask the workers kindly if they can wear gloves while making my sons cone. (None of the kids had gloves on). They agreed. As I got my cone the MANAGER came out and told me that the kids are NOT required to wear gloves because the Health Organization said so. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. She went on and said they wash their hands. Mind you the girl had dirt under her fingernails. You would think at a time like this you would want to make sure you customers feel safe. Manager was extremely rude and had a nasty tone. Her employee misheard my order and ended up charging me twice for something I did not ask for. I politely told the manager the issue and she continued to have an attitude. She went back and forth with me and proceeded to say “I’m not gonna say what I want to say”. As a black woman I took that phrase a particular way. I’m starting to think that if I was white there wouldn’t have been any further issues.
