Super happy I can be the 1st Yelp review AGAIN!
This Bao Kee restaurant is a branch from the Bao Kee Cafe in South El Monte.
Currently it has a 20% off discount if you pay by cash.
I asked and the server said this deal probably will end in 2 weeks.
1 We tried one of the signature dishes in the Bao Kee signature 8 clay pot treasures ~Sand ginger chicken wing (you need to wait 25 minutes.)
When it arrives, the hot sizzling sound is appealing. (Check out my video for this restaurant)
Although the taste is standard but I am very surprised with the section of the chicken wing. It is small and tender and that part of the meat I don't see it in the supermarket.
Overall taste grade is B
2 The traditional Cantonese dish ~ Mui Heong salted fish with mince pork.
This is a steamed dish and you need to wait 25 minutes.
I am happy that this dish is NOT salty as the other Cantonese restaurants. It has the perfect balance of taste and tenderness. The 2 salted eggs are the cherries on top. However, I did NOT see or taste the salted fish. Hum....
Anyway, the overall taste grade is B+
We are lucky that if you dine during the lunch time, the rice is free. Or else you need to order the rice separately. The rice portion is big, however, one of the rice bowl contains the VERY BOTTOM of the rice pot. (See my picture). I don't think that is the right and professional way to serve a customer with that portion of the rice. Therefore, that deducts a star for this restaurant.
The service is good and the atmosphere is standard.
In conclusion, the prices for this restaurant are a bit high in my opinion. I will ONLY come back if the 20% off...
Read moreIt was our first visit at this place by Google maps search. After setting, they've took our orders using their menu book, and it was Chinese broccoli, Kong pow shrimp, and fried fish plate with black bean sauce. But, when we got the fish plate on the table it was whole fried fish with deferrent sauce and style with slide higher on price. But here's the kicker, when we've got our check, the total seems a bit higher than the menu price and this was their answer, the hard plate menu is to show pictures of the plates and for the actual price we have a separate paper copy menu that was on the counter! It didn't make any sense to us at all. Two different menu with a two different prices??!! Not only that, the owner and server were acting as if they didn't understand standard English, also the restaurant didn't look very nice and clean, in fact they received the grade B from health department standard. It appeals to me that they need to make few changes, that's if they're planning to stay in business, especially transparency on menu price and understanding the customer's orders. Or it could be that they're just acting like not understanding the standard English for questionable purposes or their own way of doing business outside of their own ethnicity?!! It was very unpleasant experience!! And food ingredients was not very...
Read moreI was a regular at this establishment. Standard Chinese food, nothing amazing but the roast duck is decent. I used to buy roast duck here often but realized they started removing parts of the duck without letting me know. Last time, I was missing a whole leg. Every time when the roast duck was given to me with missing parts, I realized it was the same lady preparing my order. I believe she is the owner. It used to be a guy that prepared my roast duck and nothing ever went missing. But when she prepares it, she takes a cut without informing me. Removing parts of the duck I paid for without my knowledge is theft. This is stealing! I paid for the whole duck, not parts of the duck.
I put this review up to warn others when buying roast duck. Make sure you have a complete order before leaving! Don't get robbed. I will never come back again, they have lost a long time customer for their greed...
