So I’ve always been a huge fan of beautiful day so I had to see what the ex-owners were doing with Disco Rabbit and assumed it would be great. I’ll keep it simple — the food was delicious but the size of my gluten free sandwich was mini size (it’s because of the size of gluten free bread that they use, and this happened at Beautiful Day too, but MANY places like Sprouts, Aldis etc, have regular sized gluten free bread now, not the mini loaves) so my mini sandwich cost me $18. :/ I would definitely say that wasn’t a very good value at all, even though it was tasty. My son got a regular grilled cheese and while certainly not tiny it was about the same size and quality as Starbucks grilled cheese which is like $6 compared to $15.
With that said, I think the sandwiches are definitely overpriced. Or they could offer a side with the sandwich at those rates.
But I love the concept, and really enjoy the gluten free option and the BYO toppings, I just don’t know if $15-18 grilled cheese sandwiches is going to be sustainable.
Additionally we had to try the ice cream. My son got the amazing roasted peach which was SO good but it was definitely lacking sweetness and needed more sweetness, as the flavors of the peach weren’t coming out. But the actual quality of ice cream was amazing.
I got the dairy free vanilla and it was REALLY REALLY good, with real vanilla bean specks and great flavor but in contrast to my son’s ice cream it was TOO sweet and needed to come down a notch. So they need to kind of level out their ice cream sweetness.
But the flavor and the peach chunks in the peach one were absolutely amazing, and the nondairy option was excellent. I think they definitely beat nitrogen in that regard, if only they can figure out the sweetness levels. ;)
Oh! And the ice cream was VERY reasonably priced - $5? 🤯🤯
Overall I have FULL support for this place and truly hope they get good business and succeed. I just think the size x cost (value) of their sandwiches, and the sweetness of their ice cream needs a little bit of tweaking.
I do agree that it got super smoky while we were in there too, without proper ventilation…
But it’s very delicious and well...
Read moreSuch a great new spot for grilled cheese and ice cream in the area! I don’t eat dairy but my boyfriend does, so it’s perfect for both of us since they have vegan options!! I had the fig and pear grilled cheese (so good), and he went with the classic grilled cheese.
Their ice cream is amazing and I love that they have vegan options too! Super reasonably priced — $5 for a cup with 3 toppings that include cereal and other toppings. I got crunch berries, fruity pebbles and sprinkles. I would come here even just for ice cream if I wasn’t hungry for a grilled cheese.
I haven’t tried everything yet, but so far everything’s been great. Definitely adding this place to my regulars and getting it delivered...
Read moreWhat a fun new place to come to in Old Town La Quinta. My 3 year-old kid and I went to check it out for some wholesome grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup for me and Mac/cheese for him. My son loved the fun disco theme and lights, and the fun colors of the ‘Stubborn’ branded craft sodas. He had vanilla cream soda, I stuck with the zero-sugar cola. I polished off the classic grilled cheese, and tomato soup. The soup was warm & delicious, though I prefer my soup way-hot, but the quality of the soup made up for it. The service was welcoming and clean—Check it out for reasonably priced...
