BEWARE THE HIDDEN FEES

We've been to Walt's many times over the years. The food is pretty good — a bit pricey for pub grub — but my wife likes the buffalo wings, so we go from time to time.

Since our one-year-old wasn't feeling the best, we decided to order some takeout for lunch today and got hit with an unexpected 10% upcharge on every item we ordered.

I asked the bartender/manager why the prices were different and his first reply was: Where did you see the prices?

I replied: On the menu I downloaded from your website.

Then he says: Yeah, we charge a little more for To Go food because of all the extra stuff you get.

I said: Extra stuff? What? Like ... styrofoam containers?

And he agreed.

Are you kidding me?? I'm paying an extra $1.30 for the 5 cent styrofoam container that your (already overpriced) wings come in??

I've never experienced anything like this before.

I mean, I get that someone has to pay for these supplies... but are they charging people for boxes to put their leftovers in? Is there a 10% cleaning surcharge for every plate, glass and utensil the people dining in the restaurant use?

The logic just doesn't check out.

The first person I asked about the price difference was the kid at the host stand. He said, "Yeah, I think they charge more" and quickly scoured the menu, but wasn't able to find any fine print to support the claim.

(I couldn't find any either. Even when I checked the website again after getting home.)

I said to the host: That's really strange.

He said: Yeah, it's kinda stupid. I don't know why they do that.

Absolutely awful. Party of 4, 3 adults 1 toddler, Sunday evening at about 6pm. Took at least 10 minutes after being seated for the waiter to come take our drink order. He talked very quietly to the point we could barely make out every other word. Did inform us he was new so I am taking that into consideration. After we told him our drink choices he stood there staring at us until we said okay I guess we will order our food now then too. I got the Salmon. Ordered it with the butter herb sauce, with fries, broccoli, and the soup of the day. It came out a burnt black log, Cajun seasoned, extremely overdone. I choked it down by covering every inch of it in ranch. My soup never came. My son's chocolate milk came in a full size cup, and when we asked for a cup with a lid, I.e. a togo cup the waiter said no. My husband got the big kahuna burger. Said it was bland. Left 3/4ths of it on the plate. My mom got the black and blue salad with blue cheese dressing. It came with ranch instead, which she poured all over her salad before she realized. My son got corn dogs, fries, and a fruit cup. The best part of the whole meal was the ranch, really really good ranch dressing. Other than that, a waste of money. Why didn't we tell our server things were missing/wrong? He never came back to check on us until he brought the bill, and again stood staring at us until we could get our card out. Terrible service. I have been going to Walt's for at LEAST 15 years regularly. I had no desire to leave a review until my experience tonight with the knowledge of advanced leadership. My husband and I have been taken care of on most of our visits throughout the years by Ben, now part owner, and we never had any complaints and he is 80% of the reason for our return visits. But we always had our experience at bar seating. Because we are now way older, lol, and we went out earlier than usual on a Friday, the bar was full. Our experience in main dining was just as enjoyable. Our server Nathan was appropriately attentive and I didn't miss the experience I normally enjoyed at the bar at all. And let me clarify, my husband and I have made Lafayette our permanent home since 2004 and we have dined in many establishments in this time on all sides of Lafayette, from the most casual to fine dining and Walt's Other Pub has made us feel like family over every place we have given our business to. If you want a relaxed casual environment that caters to families when appropriate and offers extended dining to the mature audience, Walt's is it. Respectfully. Thank you Ben for being...
