"Blimey, I had to sit there for an hour and twenty minutes, ate a measly two bits of sushi, and they stung me $70 (¥10,000) - you be the judge of that for yourself.

Just thought I'd share my experience at this restaurant. Popped into the restaurant at about 5:10 PM in the evening. Parked myself at the sushi counter, see, 'cause it's a sushi place and I was after some sushi. Even after being shown to my seat, nobody bothered to show me the menu or ask what I wanted. And when I enquired about it, they just gave a menu paper to order things one at a time. No other explanation given, and the waitress's English wasn't up to scratch, if you ask me. Had a squint at the menu paper, but I asked for omakase. There wasn't a menu explaining what that was, and I hadn't a clue about the price. First time I'd been to the gaff, so when I asked the sushi chef over the counter about the price range, he said it's usually about 40 to 50 quid a head, and he could do omakase to whatever price I fancied. So I plumped for the 40 quid omakase. Since then, I was stuck on that counter seat for 1 hour and 20 minutes, just taking the odd bit of grub he gave me, then waiting, then taking another bit, then more waiting.

Here's what one person got, quantity-wise: A sour pickled cucumber salad 1 seaweed roll with some small pieces of prawn in it 2 slices of seared fish drizzled with ponzu sauce 1 piece of amberjack sushi 1 piece of salmon sushi with ponzu sauce on it 2 bits of fried fish with ponzu sauce (couldn't tell you what sort of fish) 1 grilled scallop with butter on top

After the initial salad, I had a single piece or 2 bits of food on 6 little plates over 80 minutes. Took the food on a small plate every 13 minutes in calculation, like clockwork. Went there for the sushi, as it's a sushi restaurant, but out of the omakase I ate during that 80 minutes stint, only 2 pieces were actually sushi.

The moment I got a single piece each of 2 types of sushi (amberjack and salmon), followed by a bit of fried fish and a grilled scallop, it felt like that was all the sushi I was going to get.

Had another appointment after my dinner, so couldn't hang about till the bitter end. Had to ask to knock it on the head, paid the bill, and scarpered. But even if I'd stayed, I reckon there wouldn't have been any more sushi forthcoming.

At the counter, there were a few other punters besides me tucking in, and they kept ordering extra drinks and booze while twiddling their thumbs waiting for their food.

After all that, the bill came to just over $70 for me and the other person I was with.

Sorry to the owner and the staff and all that, but I reckon I gave it a fair whack of my time, and even so, couldn't finish the meal properly, so I couldn't bring myself to leave a tip. Pretty gutted that I only got 2 bits of sushi in 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Sorry, but I reckon that'll be my first and last time there, mate.

A big party took the whole sushi bar and no fresh sushi or sashimi could be ordered. We can’t vouch for the sushi bar but our advice is if you don’t get a seat there, turn around and leave. Sadly, we stayed and ordered off the menu. Horrible choice because the food tasted like the dishwasher made it. The $31.95 sushi, sashimi, beef teriyaki tasted like the fish and meat were treated with chemicals. The beef tasteless, fatty and tough, was doused in an overpowering teriyaki sauce that was ghastly. By far the worst was the sashimi. It tasted like left over fish from the day of the day before. Tempura motor oil greasy. DON’T believe these fabulous reviews. We were really disappointed. My husband said he would rate a Jack in the Box burger higher...

My wife fell and severely broke her leg. After days in the hospital, she was transferred to a rehab facility. She has been in the hospital/rehab for 2 weeks. The food has been horrible. I told her I would bring her food from where-ever she wanted! She wanted her favorite sukiyaki from Kotobuki. I know they claim they have no take out containers. So, I brought my own soup pot. They REFUSED to sell me this take out meal! I had the pot in hand. Still REFUSED! We have been eating there since they opened! WE WILL NEVER go back. We have referred many people to this restaurant. The only positive thing I can say is the food is good. We will tell our friends. I know they...

We were recommended by the chef to choose omakase, which we found to be reasonably priced compared to other omakase restaurants that can cost over $100-200. The chef took pride in his job and even taught us how to use chopsticks and how to align the food properly, which made for a unique experience. The food was seasoning-based and although it was a bit salty for my taste, it was still delicious.

I’ll always miss Hiro & Tatsu but Yasu, the new Mgmt, and Team will not disappoint. The new renovations look fantastic, and they still do the classics that we all fell in love with but will also provide new dishes which is a great change of pace. I’ve been to “top-notch” sushi restaurants in OC and LA and Kotobuki is still my number 1.

To be honest, I get impressed quite fast. But this experience was totally worth it! Yeah price is a little (sarcastic) higher than just the normal Sushi restaurant, but the very quality and taste and how it's made is just awesome! Like really the best Sushi I had in my life and i've been to a lot of Sushis before. Highly recommend it!
