Had a disappointing experience today. I ordered a 3-piece dark combo for $10.99. I asked for three thighs. After I paid for my food and looked at my receipt, there was $1.86 breast substitute charge. I asked why that was and was told it was because I got three thighs instead of two thighs and a leg. No where on their menu board does it say the three piece comes with two thighs and a leg or anything like that. It says dark or mixed. If I paid 10.99 for a three-piece dark chicken combo, why am I paying an extra $1.86 on the 3rd member of my 3-piece dark combo, lol? A thigh is dark meat and why does it say breast substitute instead of thigh substitute. Make it make sense. My friend ordered two thighs only. That was $5.98 plus tax so that's $3.00 per thigh. A three piece without combo is $9.99, that's $3,00 per thigh, plus tax. I was charged $1.86 extra for a $3.00 thigh, almost $5.00 for one piece of chicken. $13.00 plus tax for a basic 3-piece combo is ridiculous. If you can't choose what dark pieces you want in your combo, then say that or post it on the menu. If you charge for something extra, tell your customers that, because if I was told that, then I would have just gotten a ordered three thighs only. It took everything in me not to ask for a refund. I wanted a refund because I stand on principle, and I don't let people play with my money, but I also wanted to support a black business that could be a diamond in the rough. Having undisclosed prices and adding extra fees without informing the customer is dishonest and misleading. I have never in my life had any chicken establishment charge me an extra $1.86 for only wanting thighs as my dark meat. The red beans and rice were luke warm, almost cold with rocks of rice that were the majority of the small side with two teaspoons of red beans. I had to ask them to warm my beans in the microwave. The chicken was barely seasoned and not consistent in flavor. There is no working air conditioning in the building and some people were dining in. I waited 25 minutes for five pieces of chicken and two teaspoons of cold red beans and rice. There were only three persons ahead of me. As hot as it was in there, you would think they wouldn't be trying to charge extra for anything or at least tell customers when they add extra charges to their receipt. Every person waiting in that hot restaurant should have been offered something to drink. We're here to support a locally owned black family business. I would think that since the community rallied together to get the place back up and running, the prices would be decent starting out, then go up in cost. They are higher than Popeyes and Churches and move slower than both restaurants combined. Show gratitude to the people in your community by starting out with affordable prices so that the people that live in the community that supports you can afford to eat there more than once a month. There were no specials for their grand opening and the whole community showed up for them the first few weeks of their opening. People waited for hours (including me, two hours and 42 minutes) in the scorching hot sun during their opening. They either ran out of chicken during their opening (when I was there) or didn't feel like making anymore close to closing time so in order to get chicken, you had to accept breasts only. A drink should have been included with every order. I know the price of food has increased but when you have a village show up for you and continue to show up for you, do the same in return at least, just once. That's how you stay opened, by staying humbled and...
Read moreTried to phone in an order for pickup but calls went unanswered. Chicken is good and spicey but way to spicey for my wife and kid. Tried to order a burger and catfish but was told they only have chicken, by the cashier who was sitting on a milk crate on the floor behind the counter. I guess the menu I found on googlemaps is no longer relevant. I like spicey but their fries were so spicey that it made me sweat. I wish they were better at communicating with customers, it was my first time there and I had to ask too many questions and the cashier seemed nice but I also seemed unbothered by me, as if she is used to only dealing with people who have been here and know how to order. If you like spicey chicken and already know what to order, you...
Read moreWow, that was some of the best fried chicken and okra I’ve ever had. Although it looks dark, it does not mean over fried or saturated with oil. Crispy with moist tender meat cooked all the way to the bone. Tried a breast, thigh and leg. Breasts usually dry out. Not this one. For those that are a little spice sensitive, buckle up. Wonderfully seasoned for a subtle Cajun spice on the pallet with a nice warming in the stomach. Even the crisp breading on the okra had a nice spice. Too full to try more than a couple of beans in the red beans and rice but, it tasted right. That’ll be breakfast! 🤣
Make the trip, make the...
