Why TaD's on Ryan Street in Lake Charles, LA won't last long... (Note: I intentionally did not reveal our server's name for two reasons. 1) There is no intention to shame or put fault on her, and 2) we do not want social scrutiny placed upon her personal life. Also, a normal tip is 15-20% but we left 10% though it could easily have been less because it wasn't the best service; however, the fault rests upon TaD's to properly train its staff and we believe her service is a reflection of this improper training and not her true potential ability.) Now...5 people in our party; a teen, a 5 yr old and 3 adults; tab pre-tip $80; time on tab 5:17 p.m. ~Seating wait time--8 minutes, not busy, plenty of servers on the floor (obvious wait staff shift change happening for but not hostess staff; no excuse for any wait when it is not busy). ~Asst. Mgr-- either too young, under trained, or improperly trained.. We asked him for napkins-- he turned to a waitress (not ours) and said, "They need napkins." Seriously! Managers who build relationships get the napkins. ~Server was affable but indifferent. Felt like she was providing the service according to how she was trained. She's probably very dynamic under dynamic leadership/management...sadly, our party saw no dynamic management on duty. RR- 😳 yuck. White walls show every bit of filth. ~On staff: 2 hostess 2 bartenders 1 asst manager 7 servers ~Again, server was affable and would probably florish under correct training and management that was actually invested in making this location last. ~Iced tea...no ice...so it was just luke warm tea in tall glasses. Again obvious lack in point of service. A server ought to be able to see that there is no ice in an iced tea. ~Grilled chicken sandwich was ordered "no sauce" came plain-- literally without anything on it. ~Dinner salad was obviously premade as it was wilted onto the bowl it had been made in. It had 1...yes only 1... cherry tomato and 1 very thinly sliced cucumber. Seriously--that's not a salad worthy of linen dinner napkins. A better side salad could be gotten at Outback and/or Logan's and they use paper napkins. ~Don't get me wrong... Linen napkins are wonderful but usually bespeak a better dining experience...not food one can get down the road at a similar joint using paper napkins. ~Blackened shrimp salad had ready-made bacon bits including rubbery fat chunks instead of actual crispy bacon crumbled onto it. ~Fried catfish with flour breading that was just bland. ~Food and pricing not competative--- food was ok but not that impressive. ~Better food and service could be had within a small radius at multiple places. Two examples: Steamboat Bills or even RickinJaks just down the street on Ryan. ~Sadly, no one ever asked us how things were until we were done. ~After the bill was paid, the asst. mgr finally found his way over (at this point there were only 4 tables being served and 1 bar customer) to ask "How was everything" as he kept walking by...not stopping we responded very flatly and slowly "It was o-k", but he just kept walking-- no response. Nothing-no questions- no inquiry--nada. It seems obvious to my very well trained mind and years of experience that TaD's has multiple issues but correcting them needs to start at the top. Don't just keep flipping the management team. Find a manager and/or district supervisor who cares to build this location, cares about building customer relationships, and devotes herself or himself into developing a dynamic team at the top and middle then the bottom will follow. Until then, closing is in Tad's near future. (Let me follow up by stating that for 9 years I worked as an executive manager in a very profitable full service restaurant before entering the education field. I currently live in the greater Houston area--were eating out is king in the industry. I enjoy visiting Lake Charles often.)u

Review of TaDs Louisiana Cooking We ordered about $50 worth of food (excluding delivery and service fees) Country fried steak was described as served with fries, gravy and toast. When arrived, food not even warm, but i understand that because i expect that as it was delivered. What i dont understand is how you plate a meal without all the ingredients. Its not that hard. Who checks the plates before its ok to be delivered? Obviously, no one. The delivery came with the steak and toast but no gravy and no fries. West side problems, for sure. BUt ive learned what my part is and it wont happen again. No more deliveries And, if i order take out,I will pull everything out, in the store, in front of all the customers, to check and see that everything i ordered, is in fact, in the order. Im tired of poor customer service and even more tired of calling and being offered a fix that includes me driving to the restaraunt to pick up food that was ordered for delivery and left behind . BUt of course, when I ordered for delivery, i really meant i want some delivered but the rest, i will happily jump in my car to pick up. Geesh. Whats the saying…”Fool me once….” What a shame because the food is tasty, If you get it.

The tads bowl is one of my absolute favorite things to eat. The problem is getting them to make it correctly. The menu says it comes with ranch but im pretty sure that's a myth because mine never has. Everything else listed in the tads bowl is more of a suggestion then anything. It should say "may exclude" instead. I mean you wouldn't think it'd be a difficult dish to prepare being only 8 ingredients but apparently it's quite the challenge. Being that it's 15 dollars for essentially a bowl of white rice doesn't sound that appealing but it definitely can be. If you're lucky enough to have it made right it will change your life. Top of the list best things I've ever eaten. The problem comes now that I've found my new favorite dish i want it again. Apparently the first few were lucky unicorns? How many bowls will I have to buy before I get another good one? It's not difficult to make at home so I guess there's always that.

If you are hungry and stopping in for good service and a nice meal, you'll be better off going to a convenience store for a bag of trail mix and a Coke, and just keep on driving! If you want happy hour beers at a decent price, well, that may be the best thing Tads has going for it at this location. Hubby and I were amazed at just how incredibly bad the service was and the 'only-meat-and-rice jambalaya and gumbo-with-zero-vegetables’ food. No seafood gumbo at a seafood restaurant? Really? A couple of digestive enzymes and 2 glasses of bottom-shelf Woodbridge Pinot Grigio later and we are shaking our heads and chuckling at just how bad it was while we walked out. Dang it. I shoulda read the reviews on Yelp. But we were quite entertained! The photo attached is a pretty clear representation of the level of service at this place.

It took an hour to get our food after we sat down and ordered. The restaurant was not super crowded so I don’t see much reason for the delay. The crawfish queso was delicious but was served with bag chips that were definitely from the bottom of the bag abs were nothing but broken bits. The appetizer order of egg plant with crawfish etouffee was cold. The chicken and sausage gumbo was horrible and had a weird taste that “cling on” for hours. The chicken fried chicken was served with out the white gravy and after we asked for it it took another 10 minutes to get it. The only food that was remotely good was the club sandwich which was served on burnt bread. Maybe we just caught this place on a bad day but we will not be coming back.

A party of six of us arrived right at 5 pm. We were promptly seated. The bar area was so loud though. We were greeted by our server and she told us the happy hour special and the specials of the day. I ordered a margarita on the rocks, crawfish bites, and mozzarella sticks for the table. We ordered and everything came out in about thirty minutes. We ordered one kid popcorn shrimp to split between our kids, I ordered fish tacos, my husband got overstuffed shrimp poboy, our friend ordered the kids catfish for her son, and she got bang bang shrimp. The onion rings were on point. Some of the best ones I've had in a while. Everything came out quickly, hot, and fresh. We will have to go back after such a great experience.
