Disappointing & Overpriced – AVOID! My recent visit to Asabi Bistro Sushi Bar was a complete letdown, leaving me feeling ripped off and thoroughly unsatisfied. While the "Asian fusion bistro" concept promised an exciting culinary experience, what I received was an overpriced, under-portioned, and deceptive meal. Let's start with the most egregious issue: the pricing. The menu prices are seemingly just a suggestion. We were unpleasantly surprised to find our bill significantly higher than anticipated. To add insult to injury, they tack on a mysterious 3% charge for "something" (which was never clearly explained), and then an additional 3% if you dare to pay with any card. This bait-and-switch pricing model and excessive surcharges are simply unacceptable and feel designed to nickel-and-dime customers. Beyond the price gouging, the food itself was incredibly disappointing. For the exorbitant cost, the portions were insultingly small. "Subpar" doesn't even begin to cover it. We left feeling hungry, despite having paid a small fortune. Perhaps they're trying to make up for their exorbitant prices with the "aestheticism" mentioned in their description, but a pretty interior doesn't fill an empty stomach or justify deceptive billing practices. Save your money and your appetite. There are countless other restaurants in the area that offer better value, honest pricing, and truly satisfying food. I strongly advise against dining at Asabi.

Drinks were refilled regularly and dishes appropriately cleared from table. Apptzrs.: Spicy Edamame had good flavor and texture; crab Rangoon had wonderful flavor and great texture; Fried Dumplings w/ Soy Sauce had good flavor and texture. Entrees: Generals Chicken was slightly dry, poor on flavor, and possessed a strong oil flavor. Fried rice was very bland and soggy. The sweet and spicy sauce was reasonably poured on and possessed a good flavor; Kung Pao Chicken: was not as dry, poor on flavor, and possessed a strong oil flavor. Fried rice was very bland and soggy. The sweet and spicy sauce was reasonably poured on and possessed a good flavor. I did, however, enjoy the little crunchy peanuts added to the sauce. Sushi: Shrimp Tempura was good and had quality flavor as well as texture; Smoked Salmon was decent flavor; but, lacked good texture due to soggy rice. The rolls fell apart when picking them up with utensils. Overall Rating: While it is not my first, nor second choice, I would rank it in 6th of the top 10 places I’ve dined for this category of cuisine—which also happens to be my favorite choice of dining. I am a big fan of good quality customer service and can overlook many things if the food is good and they have stellar customer service. I would; however, return in the future to give it a second try. I would give it an overall...
Read moreWent here last night after getting into town. Keep in mind we used to live in lake St. Louis. We wanted to go to sushi sen but unfortunately they were closed. I’m going to do a simple pros and cons list, then rate the sushi.
Pros: Cute spot by the lake, decent orange chicken and gyoza.
Cons: the place was packed and they had one pregnant server for all the tables. This lead to extremely slow service and items forgotten.
Sushi: so this was the main thing we went for and we ordered close to $200 worth. We started with a squid salad to share, it was a bit fishy. Yes squid salad inherently is “fishy” but not like we had last night, a little too much. The sushi itself (the rice) was seasoned well and for the most part held together nicely. The maki rolls we ordered were decent, some better than others. Most of the nigiri was good except for some of the red tuna, it was cut really poorly and I kept having to spit out gristle. That is one of the worst things, nigiri not cut right. We also ordered some hand rolls and those weren’t bad. My personal favorite was the white tuna, tasted very smooth and was cut nicely.
Overall the sushi was mostly okay, the service was pretty lacking, and I don’t think it was worth over $200 we spent. Next time we are in town we will wait for sushi...
