It's high time I review one of my favorite places on the north side. Bitter Pops may be known for their beer, for the food is actually most of the reason I keep coming back. First, let's talk about the beer. 20 beautiful taps stand at the center of attention, boasting a continuously rotating selection of all kinds of beer styles. If you can't find a beer you like here, you're either too picky or don't actually like beer. I always end up getting several 5oz tasters, which are reasonably priced, so that I can taste a variety of beers. My Untapped is never as active as when I come here! A big shoutout to the bartenders as well - they're always super friendly and have the best head/facial hair in the biz. Next, the food. What originally brought me in here was a picture of their cheeseburger. It's one of my favorites in the city. It's a wonderful double smash patty with melty cheese and a soft bun. But that's not all, they also do monthly burger specials, which are their version of regional burgers found throughout the country. They do delicious seasonal salads, which use ingredients and flavors that are currently available. Lastly, look out for the spice bag. It's also seasonal but if you can find the spicy chicken one, it is the best! I love this place and bring visitors whenever they're in town. There is no better place to try a bunch of different styles of beer with some of the best food in town.

I thought I had a solid top burger list but after tasting this smash burger I had to reverse course faster than blue cross blue shield did on anesthesia. Don’t sleep on this burger too long or blue cross blue shield might charge you! The first thing that stands out is the Christmas decor. The tree, the lights, the ornaments and the fake fireplace make the place feel cozy, inviting and full of holiday spirit. If you trying to get jolly they got ally the beer and cider you could want. We came for the food. We each ordered a smash burger. Hers vegetarian and mine normal. It honestly reminded me of google’s quantum chip. I know it’s a big deal and it’s a vast improvement from the competition but I couldn’t really tell you why. All I know is if we’re in a multiverse I want the other multiverses to have this burger too! Highly recommend this place! We can’t wait to go back

Not one bad thing here. Excellent retail store with a huge refrigerated selection of local, national and worldwide beer. A pretty solid liquor selection as well. Then there’s the taproom, great staff always awesome draft choices, and very reasonable pricing for pours. Great atmosphere to hang out with friends or bring a date to have a beer. Dog friendly except Fridays and Saturdays, so you really can’t go wrong! Follow them on Instagram for releases and awesome specials in their taproom. Lastly, join their rewards program that gets your free beers in the taproom! One of the best places to get your craft beer fix in Chicago.

I first want to start off saying the food I ordered was delicious, and i do not understand why I waited 8 months after moving around the corner from this establishment to try it out.

However, there are a few things that might prevent myself from coming back. The first thing is they do not offer a combo deal with a purchase of a sandwich. I paid $13+ for a double cheeseburger. While absolutely delicious, the fact that I had to skip getting fries with my order because a single order of fries was HALF the price of the main course, the hamburger, kind of soured my prospects of returning. Also, drinks are not provided in the price, which I can understand for the type of establishment this place is, however, I would feel much more confident in spending my money here if I could get a burger and drink/fry for a fair, combined price. However, having to spend $25-30 for a simple burger, no matter how good, and having to also order a separate order of a drink and a fry is a bit crazy, and gives the impression that the business is putting profit margins over customers, considering anyone who has worked or owned a restaurant understands it doesn’t cost $13 for a double cheese burger unless the company is trying to increase their profit margin at the expense of their customers. And as I said before, the quality and consistency of the food does deserve addition value for the final product, however there is a limit, especially when you ask use to pay $6+ for a side of fries and $3-5 for a drink on the side.

But I do give credit to this business for the quality of their food. They have a great atmosphere and very...

Great taproom with lots of good options, and knowledgeable staff. Excellent selection in the store side too. Can't wait to come back on a night that the kitchen is open for some of the legendary burgers!

Edit: I came back, and the burgers are amazing (as are the snacks)! They just started a program where they make historically-significant burgers (think George Motz, the burger scholar) every Thursday, and rotate the special every month!

Second edit: ever since the advent event in December, the taproom had gotten VERY popular in the evenings, at least Thursday-Sunday. Which is well deserved! But be aware you may need to wait for a table those nights. Also they continue to crush it with the regional burgers, and now offer an Impossible version of all of their burgers!

Third edit: still busy, still great! The regional burgers every Thursday are phenomenal.

Fourth edit: still great. They've really stepped up their daytime game, with excellent coffee drinks and breakfast sandwiches, and the smash burger is hard to beat. The anniversary burger is out of this world, too, so definitely try...
