I don't care what the WHO says: the occasional good sausage is worth the risk — and Hot "G" Dog delivers on its promise to serve up something that's "not your average weiner."
The Classic Italian, a succulent chicken sausage with garlic and basil, comes in at under $7 with a large drink and comprises a very adequate lunch by itself. I asked the guy at the counter what he recommended in it; the brown mustard and sautéed onions he suggested proved a surprisingly good fit.
You can add a side of crisp, fresh-cut fries for between $2 and $4 more if you're starving.
The convenient North Clark Street location makes a nice stop on a day out exploring the vibrant Andersonville neighborhood.

Read moreTried a burger, the New York sausage and the Rabbit special. The NY was spicy/hot, covered in mustard (which I love) and sweet grilled onions - it was delicious. I've never had rabbit so I don't have anything to compare it too. I think the Dijon mustard and some other flavor I'm not familiar with were too strong paired with the rabbit, but that's just me. The burger was average; the fries were good. It's cash only but they have an ATM. Football was on the tv which is a plus as far as I'm concerned. They have unusual offerings, so if you like sausage, it might be...
