Southport Taqueria is a gem of a local spot that we’ve walked by many times but only recently started visiting – and we’re so glad we did! We’ve dined there a few times now, and the food has consistently been fantastic. When we were planning a party for our 3-year-old, we decided to ask if they could cater for the event. Their response and service went above and beyond our expectations.
Not only did they agree to cater, but they also opened up early for us to ensure we could pick up our food in time for the party. This kind of personal touch and customer care is rare and truly appreciated.
As for the food, it was outstanding! From the Al pastor to the chorizo, the flavors were vibrant and authentic. The sides and salsas were just as impressive, adding the perfect complements to the main dishes. Every guest at the party raved about the food, and it was clear that Southport Taqueria’s quality and attention to detail made the day even more special.
We can’t recommend this place highly enough. Whether you’re looking for a casual meal or planning an event, don’t hesitate to consider Southport Taqueria. It’s a place that truly delivers on both taste...
Read moreI came here for takeout on Taco Tuesday and definitely will be coming back to try more menu items. The food was delicious and authentic (not Tex Mex), the service was warm and welcoming, and the staff truly cared about the preparation of quality food. It’s the best Mexican restaurant I’ve found in the neighborhood.
The guacamole portion was huge, and the guac was so delicious. I also tried the queso fundido with chorizo. The portion was also generous, but this is the only thing I tried that I didn’t care for because I have had better elsewhere. The queso tasted like there was too much of an ingredient like cornmeal or something else perhaps to keep the texture more melted and runny as opposed to other queso that sometimes congeals? I’m not sure, but it had a little gritty quality to it and not as much flavor as I would like. That, however, does not subtract a star in my view. The tacos I tried (al pastor and ground beef) were delightful and the corn tortillas tasted fresh. The chips were excellent too and perfectly seasoned. I will...
Read moreI recently moved to Chicago from Texas, and honestly, I’d been avoiding Mexican food here because I assumed it would be a letdown compared to back home. This place completely proved me wrong—it’s absolutely amazing, even by Texas standards.
I ordered the al pastor taco (a must-get, easily the best of the bunch), the chorizo taco (good, but not quite at the level of the al pastor), and a quesadilla with jalapeños and ground beef, which was outstanding. The real star, though, is the sauce—especially the red one. It’s so addictive that I found myself scraping the takeout containers clean.
On top of the food, the staff here are super friendly, and you can tell they put care into everything they make. Expect to wait about 15 minutes for your order, since nothing is pre-made and everything is cooked fresh—it’s absolutely worth it.
This is hands-down the best Mexican food I’ve...
