I love Kilwin's. When I visit I usually go to the location in Coral Springs or the one in Lauderdale by the Sea. When I head to the Lake Worth Street Painting Festival however I wouldn't finish the day without a visit to the Lake Worth location. I go for the ice cream but in addition to that they sell candy apples, fudge, and assorted chocolate concoctions. You can't go wrong with anything. The heavenly smell hits you the moment you enter the door. I wish I could capture it in a perfume. My poison is the chocolate chip mint with hot fudge and my daughter got a pumpkin ice cream with chocolate sprinkles. The total for two small cups of ice cream with one topping each was $15.00 Pricey but it's a once in a blue moon treat so I say it's worth it. If you are going to pile on the calories from ice cream it should at least be good ice cream. When I really want to live large I get one of the hand rolled waffle cones, They are heaven.
Update: Kilwins is a mom and pop confectionary shop that was founded in 1947 in Petoskey Michigan. Now the company operates 123 stores in 22 states. This Kilwins was located in downtown Lake Worth for 10 years on Lake Avenue. Last year a rent increase forced a move and they are now in the historic Lake Worth Casino building on the beach. Owner Maria Matias may be sad about having to move but I think the new location is a better fit for them. What goes better than the beach and ice cream? Nothing!
I came in after a stroll on the Lake Worth Pier. Around once a year I decide to have ice cream for dinner and this was that night. The thing that always hits you when you walk in to a Kilwins is the incredible smell of sugar. As I once heard a gentleman say "it doesn't smell to bad in here!" He was indeed correct. I would by a perfume of it if I could. The closest I have found is the vanilla scent from Bath & Body Works. Once your olfactory senses have been sufficiently primed it's time to shell out for the ridiculously overpriced confections. I got my staple of chocolate chip mint ice cream in a hand rolled waffle cone but you can also purchase chocolates and some entirely too tempting candy apples. My single scoop cone was $12! Watching the sun go down on the beach while sucking down delicious ice cream in the tropical Florida...
Read moreI am deeply disappointed to share my recent experience at Kilwins during my anniversary trip, which was far from celebratory. Upon entering the store around 4:55 p.m., my wife and I approached the ice cream station, only to be completely ignored by the two employees present. They seemed more interested in their personal conversation than in serving customers. Even after making eye contact and attempting to get their attention, we were overlooked.
The situation escalated when another customer arrived after us and was immediately greeted and served by one of the employees who had previously ignored us. The skinny pale employee woman behind the counter pointed at the other male employee signaling to my wife and i that he would help us. When I expressed that we were first and im sorry im so confused on what's happening the response from the woman employee dismissive, and one ofretorted rudely when I mentioned that we had not been greeted upon entry " we did say hello" is what she yelled at my wife and I. I ignored her comment due to the fact that their was a child in the store and secondly my wife and I wanted ice cream.
This kind of service is unacceptable and certainly not what we expected from a reputed establishment like Kilwins. The staff displayed a lack of basic customer service skills and courtesy. It’s disheartening that what should have been a simple pleasure during our special trip was marred by such poor treatment. I hope this feedback prompts better training and improvements in...
Read moreThe ice cream here is good and they have great pastries. I have been here a few times whenever I visit family in Florida. Im giving one star due to the rude customer service. After getting a scope of the cappuccino chip I was looking for my aunt who was in the aisle considering to buy the brittle pastry. While looking for her one of the girls at the counter gave me a nasty look as if I was going to walk out the store without paying. I was just looking for my aunt. Then I made eye contact with the girl who gave me that dirty look. Then, the other girl who had taken out my ice cream walked towards me saying rudely oh the register is over there. So after my aunt decided to not buy the brittle we walked to the register and paid. I just didn’t like that customer service because I always pay for what I order. To think I’m walk out without paying is an insult to me and I also felt offended because I was one of the only people of color in the store so I felt targeted. But it’s cool when I come visit Florida again I will not step foot in here. I go to many ice creams places in NYC where I’m from and I never encountered this problem. I was just looking...
