Not sure how this place has so many positive reviews along with a full parking lot on the regular. Moved to the area about a year ago and I am also a fellow northerner so I know what a bagel should taste like. I was excited to have a bagel place so close and they are imported from NY, sounds like a win until I ordered my first bagel. It was so hard and dense, figured it could have been a fluke. My daughter loves croissants and they are her absolute favorite and yet couldn’t even eat half of it. Convinced the wife to give them a second chance a few weeks later. Same thing, stale tasting hard bagels. After that we gave up. Fast forward to about a year later today, wife convinced me to give them 1 more chance with this being our third attempt, another disappointment. Why are these bagels so hard and flavorless and yet people line up for them. I have no problem supporting a local business but I rather get my bagels from the refrigerated section of the grocery store.
As for the coffee, it’s ok and just coffee. Nothing mind blowing or spectacular and at the same time not sure how they got voted best coffee in the area and yet there is only 2 breakfast restaurants that are not food chains in the area so competition is nonexistent. Almost makes me think someone once said, hey these guys have the best coffee in the area and someone overheard and agreed and now they’ve officially been voted best coffee...
Read moreFood is good, place is clean, but (on my first ever visit) service was lacking. Waited in line for 10 minutes (the place is clearly very popular), and as soon as I got to the register, the guy running the point of sale just walked away with no explanation. Waited at the register for approximately another 5 minutes (kept checking my watch) until a younger gal who had been watching the register while making food finally came over to take my order and get the line moving again. Food was prepared rather quickly, but the girls in the back got a little disorganized and when food my was ready a young gal (looked to be HS age) just shoved the bag in my hand and said, “Here’s your food” and walked away. She returned a minute or two later with my coffee and simply said, “Here you go” and walked away again. Maybe it’s just because I’m from the South, where people used to have manners, but I found the interaction to be very transactional — no human eye contact or connection whatsoever, which was surprising at a place that appears to be a mom & pop establishment, not a franchised chain. Might be back. Hope the service is better (and more...
Read moreI'm from the Northeast where bagels are a staple. It's hard to find good bagels in the Carolinas..... There's a place called West End bagels in Indian Land which is fantastic and another one in ballantyne called bagel bin which is pretty decent too..... Unfortunately bagel boat does not have good bagels and this is my third time getting one over the years. ( My mom lives in lake Wylie)
I'm not sure if they make them in house, if they are not cooking them correct way, or the recipe is off for the dough, but the texture ( very dense) and taste is way off...
Additionally the cream cheese was terrible, almost like a Walmart brand. Pasty, thick and cheap tasting. Don't get me wrong I love a ton of cream cheese but it should be creamy whipped and tasty.
It was so bad, I didn't even eat the second half because of my mind it was a waste of calories.
I was thinking about getting a lunch sandwich but they are all $15, which I find ridiculous.
Lots of workers, service was good, The atmosphere is super cute, very " mom and pop " with little rooms to converse and hang out.
But my honest opinion skip this place until it finds new owners or a new...
