There was a hole melted in the styrofoam box of my take out order. The brisket was dry, egg overcooked, rice bland, missing pickled carrots and daikon, just a single leaf of lettuce, and a few bites of tomato and cucumber. I was so excited to try this place, it was 4:45 last Wed. I tried to order a Banh mi first, they were out, then cha gio and they were out. The rice dinner with jasmine rice, brisket, over easy egg and some pickled veggies would be great. First they were out of brisket. Then she looked back into the kitchen and said there was one brisket portion left (which I appreciated at the time, but maybe that’s why it was dry). I paid $21 for the rice dinner + tip, no drink or side, and my friend and I waited 40 minutes for our two orders (there was one other couple who came in while we were there, but no one else, the phone did ring a couple times). I would much rather them close early that day (to catch up on prep, etc.), so we could choose a different place to pick up food, then to be served food that’s sub par, at a long wait and high price.

It's a small building with a boost mobile store sharing half, which was a little odd to start but don't be fooled. This is some good stuff. The same family owns the whole thing, and they were also working there when I went. The spring rolls were out of this world- three of us went and we got an order of six. Two spring rolls is almost a meal in itself here. Plus they come with a light peanut-y, spicy sauce with a hint of sweetness. We ordered at the counter, but the waitress brought out the food as it was ready. We ordered some peach cobbler, and when we were finishing with the main course, the waitress asked if we'd like it heated with a side of ice cream. Every desert is homemade, and I'll tell you- it's the type of place I'll go back to just for desert sometime. The Banh Mi sandwich I ordered tasted downright healthy. Fresh mint, cilantro, and cucumber were found in a lot of the dishes I tried, which were GREAT for summer, but I can definitely see going back in the colder weather for some Pho and the smoked meats. Strongly recommended.

Dude, have you been here? I mean if you like Vietnamese food and good old fashioned BBQ, this might be the place for you. I want to try more of the menu here, I honestly do, but I am certainly stuck on the brisket. The brisket plate and or the brisket banh mi. Both great and I wish they never ended in servings like in Harry Potter. I have also tried this pho, which is good. Vietnamese coffee, I don’t know if they still make it the same way, but I did enjoy that tiny pinch of condensed milk at the end. They also offer different dessert pastries, such as pie or cake, so you can get appetizers, a meal, and dessert. This restaurant is a bit on the small side there is minimal parking so be aware. I come around here for worked once or twice a year and I get it every single time. Maybe it isn’t and a little corny, but I always use to pass this little restaurant and one day 4 years ago I was looking at Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives in Lansing and sure enough Capital City BBQ was on the list. And I am so glad I gave it a go… I’m kind of craving a plate now.

I normally don't post things like this but felt it was needed I share my experience. I had some testing done at The hospital and decided to try Capital City BBQ for lunch after one of the tests. Guy Fieri enjoyed them on Diners Drive-ins and Dives. Here's my experience: My friend and I walked in and looked at the menu trying to decide what to eat. I knew I needed to order egg rolls for my God daughter. My friend decided to order pulled pork fries with cheese (which she enjoyed). I decided to try the pork spring rolls and some pulled chicken. When the lady brought out the "spring rolls" they where cold, raw, sticky, and had fatty pork belly looking at me. Absolutely disturbing would be appropriate in the appearance. It looked nothing compared to the description in the menu. The lady who brought it out looked at my reaction and she said that's how all "spring rolls" are with an attitude. She then went back in the kitchen and started talking about me. Within hearing distance i could hear everything. HOW INAPPROPRIATE! The pulled chicken had no flavor and tasted like it had been boiled. The price for all...$34. Unbelievable and utter disappointment. On top of that they were selling t-shirts saying "guy ate here" for $22. Talk about price gouging on all levels. After leaving I got even more upset and decided to call and talk to a manager/owner. She answered the phone and when I asked to talk to the owner she said "I AM" Jaw drop moment. Never ever again will I step foot in that establishment or give another dime to them.

What's worse, after posting this review on their website, they feel their actions are justified because I'm unknowlagable in their cuisine. They refuse to take any ownership in how they treat customers and obviously don't want to improve on their...

I'm really sorry I have to leave such a bad review. My wife has had spring rolls here several times so we went for a BBQ date Friday night. I have never been more upset about a dining experience! We arrived at about 7:15 pm with 2 people in line ahead of us. It took 20 minutes for us to get to the front of the line to order - my first red flag. I ordered the Awesome Mess, described as a pulled pork bbq sandwich with bbq sauce and cole slaw with one side (I chose baked beans). And then we waited. And waited. FOUR people who ordered AFTER us got their food first. We approached the counter after the 4th person got their food, it had been well over 30 minutes waiting at that point. The owner did a couple rounds through the mostly empty restaurant, and he seemed to try to avoid eye contact since we were obviously very annoyed at that point. The cashier told us they were just dressing the cole slaw... What?? Cole slaw should be dressed well ahead of time so the cabbage can soak up the dressing. Finally, after 40 minutes, we got our food to go home. I opened my sandwich to find a few pieces of wet cabbage and no bbq sauce on my pork. The pork tasted good but I really wished there was sauce. The baked beans... were horrible. Rancid. They smelled and tasted like a plastic melted on an exhaust pipe. The mixture was maybe only 30% beans, the rest was a strange mystery meat sludge. We called them "poison beans" because it was such a strong, terrible chemical flavor that really sticks around in your sinuses. We don't get many date nights, and we drove all the way from Saint Johns for good BBQ. This extreme waste of time and disappointing food ruined our date night and I will not hesitate to tell people not to waste their time...

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Not because the food isn't good, but because this is the WORST service I have EVER had.

The first time I went to this place with my boyfriend, we ate in. We ordered and sat down, and were told that the order would be up in 10-15 minutes. 30 minutes later the food came out. We were aggravated, but since the food was good we decided we would give it a second chance.

The next time my boyfriend went, he called in an order and was told it would be 12 minutes. He got there after 12 minutes had past, and ended up waiting another 15 minutes once he got there.

Fast forward to today, we placed a to-go order and were told 12 minutes. KNOWING that their service sucks, we decided to wait extra time before leaving. So we waited 20 minutes before getting to the restaurant. I got there, waited for a customer to get cashed out, and then paid for my food. I hear a guy in the back saying "how am I supposed to know when an order comes up?" The cashier then says "ummm...it's going to be a minute". To which I say "did you even start it?" And the guy informs me that they had not, and that the fries would take 15 more minutes. The order hadn't even been handed to the cook. I asked for all of my money back (including the tip), and I left. As he gave me the money back I didn't even get one apology. Not one. No food is that good that it's worth that...
