Found this gem! I saw a few interesting menu items while searching for restaurants in Laredo.
I was greeted by friendly and accommodating staff and decided to sit at the bar since I was dining alone. The manager, Mauricio, asked if I had dined with them before. I said no and he explained some of the restaurant's concepts.
I started with the appetizer that caught my attention from the website - Veracruzana Style Fresh Sea Bass Ceviche and also ordered The Baja Style Lobster Taco. The ceviche was a very generous portion of Sea Bass served with avocado and tostados. It came with a spoon which you will definitely want to use to capture every savory bite.
The Lobster Taco was overflowing with lobster chunks, saffron rice, black beans, avocado and creamy chipotle plus a spicy tart salsa to top it off.
The craftsman bartender, Miguel, was hard at work making fantastic beverages. I had the Smokey Guava -mezcal, guava nectar, lime & grapefruit juice, agave nectar & chia. It was exquisite! All of their juices are fresh squeezed...
My entree was the Homemade Mole Poblano - smothered shredded chicken in the best mole that I have had since visiting deep interior Mexico decades ago. I have been searching for great mole ever since and they have all fallen short until now. 😋 Served with almond rice - almond slices not slivers.
Overall the service and the food were perfect. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. Vegetarian options are available as well.
The casual atmosphere is a welcome change for a fine...
Read moreFirst arriving atmosphere nice the picture on the walls fit the bistro style. We sat down and were offered drinks. So far so good until we wait for about 8min to get our menu. A couple came after us and they were given their drinks and menu. I hadn’t noticed what the waiter was doing or why she took a while but she said she had forgotten. No problem we ordered and waited. It took our food a minimum of 50 min to an hour arrive. I know it might sound like a ridiculous amount but my siblings had enough time to go next door and buy pastrys. We had ordered the angus burger, cornflakes chicken sandwich, and the 3hour red wine short rib. When I saw my plate which was the short rib I noticed the asparagus was still raw. The meat was warm and flavorless. It tasted as if the meat was in a slow cooker with no red wine. The mashed potatoes, mushrooms, and red wine sauce were what carried that dish. Surprisingly the angus burger was better than the 25 dollar short rib. Our waitress never used a note pad to get our order and had to double back and ask for one of our orders. She was busy at the expedite window waiting for others peoples orders while we waited for a refill. So we had to ask another waiter for our refill. I know the bistros has no fault over bad service but they do have the fault on how the...
Read moreLet me just ask this... How many times have your happen to have had miscommunication issues with your server about your order? Probably more than just a handful of times, but it does happen. That's ok we all have our moments. That being said, we ordered the "Chicken Sandwich". Apparently, they have several different chicken sandwiches and they brought out what they thought I had asked for. Honest mistake for both parties right?
Well, NOPE not at all! The sorry excuse of a manager said that its is clearly written on the menu and that it was still being charged on our tab! I asked why and he said cuz they had already brought it out.😲 My logic says if YOUR menu has SEVERAL DIFFERENT chicken sandwiches, Why aren't the servers trained to SIMPLY ask WHICH ONE?! The staff is poorly trained and the manager needs a new career. Not tactful at all, could not even articulate his words nor look me straight in the eye! I left them with their stupid sandwich and walked off. This has NEVER happened to me at...
