I have been going to this restaurant for many years now and have always enjoyed everything about this place, until a few weeks ago and now I don't think I will ever return, which is too bad.
A few weeks ago, my husband and I walked in around 430, or so and we didn't have reservations so we were definitely taking our chances in getting a table. While my husband parked the car, I went up to the outdoor 'check-in' and requested a table if one was available. I was greeted by a young, sweet host who said they had two tables available and I was happy about that. One was a little further away, kind of out of they way and the other was right near the driveway. I asked if they could wait until my husband arrived in a few minutes and we could choose then what table we would take. The host was fine with that. Within a minute or two, I noticed they were taking someone else to the table we were promised and I asked what happened. When I asked why they gave that table to someone so quickly a different host interrupted my conversation with the younger gal, and rudely said this. 'You didn't make a decision soon enough and if you don't decide on the other table right now, we're going to give that one away too!' I so was caught off guard by her absolutely rude behavior, I couldn't possibly stay and enjoy an evening there. Before leaving, I quietly told the younger, more pleasant host, that I didn't appreciate that woman interrupting our conversation and also being so rude. She justified this woman's behavior by saying, 'Well, you can see she's very pregnant and you know what that's like, so maybe you can just be more understanding of her situation.' Me: No, I don't understand a host being rude to any customer ever, pregnant or not! If she's not happy being here, she needs to go home. There's no excuse for being rude; it wasn't just that one time she said something rude, she did it another time, as well. It's a shame that they have hosts that treat their customers like that. Especially those who have been going there for many years. It's always been our 'go-to' place, but unfortunately, it...
Read moreI thought Perry's was "ok." Nothing extraordinary. The best thing about my experience at Perry's is the picture that I took of the outside area The redwood trees surrounding the darling building coupled with the glow from well hung lighting allowed for a lovely photo. But given all of the other dining options in the Bay Area it did not "wow" me.
I also appreciate a diverse eatery and I don't just mean diverse kitchen staff I mean diversity of the patrons attending the eatery. Who comes to eat at a place there's a lot about the place and the values of a place.
Perry's, at least the day we were there, did not have a diverse crowd... In fact it was quite homogenized... all appeared to be straight, white, well-to-do Marin folk. And that's just the nature of things I suppose but I like to see diversity when I walk into a place ... And not just among the kitchen staff or wait staff.
The server attending to our work group was cheerful and helpful but also inserted herself a bit too much for my taste and it appeared that others felt this way as well. She likely just wanted to get a great tip- can't blame her for that, but she would've still received a good tip, maybe even better, had she stepped back a bit.
I don't know the cost of the meal because my company paid for it but given the location and the reputation of Perry's it was probably overpriced for what it was.
I may give it another go in the summer and sit outside and order a meal and pay for it and see how it goes but honestly I don't live in Marin county so most likely I'll never go there again. I'd also not recommend it because there are many other places in the Bay...
Read moreI understand that nobody really goes to Perry’s for the food, but on a Tuesday night, just craving salad and burger, and fries… It was pretty awful. So was the service.
The impossible Smashburger was torched— super dried out. The American cheese they put on top clearly had been melted in with a broiler (also dry), which is just not how you’re supposed to properly do a Smashburger I asked for a lettuce wrap instead of the gluten-free sliced bread and got a simple piece of limp lettuce with an entire slice of the middle of an onion and more chopped lettuce with it. No sauces, tomato or pickle. It was just bad.
The fries needed to be salted, but we’re fine. The artichoke was tiny and slightly undercooked, but the aïoli was good.
The service was just terrible. Everything felt like a giant inconvenience for our server. We were seated outside which was the biggest reason why we went there. We wanted to be under the redwoods. It was like after our server came for a drink orders we didn’t exist. He made eye contact with us multiple times and did not come over to take her order. When asked for more hot water for my hot water and lemon, he seemed annoyed.
Atmosphere aside, I don’t think I would eat here again. Neither in the city. They really need to revamp that menu and work on...
