We had ordered a cake here the other day for my birthday and had just picked it up today. And it was nothing like what had been requested.
We were super specific with what we wanted it to look like. Even when the worker opened the box to show us the cake we were all surprised that the shape was circular instead of rectangular as how we requested(she had spoken with my mom about the cake before)! We decided to still give it a chance and took it home where we found layers (that we didnt ask for) and that it wasn't tres leches. This WOULD be understandable because when my mother requested it she had to call the next day when they opened as she forgot to ask for it to be tres leches. To which she was then reassured that it WOULD BE. We tried it and it was literally THE DRIEST CAKE I'VE EVER HAD. I could literally pick up a cake from Smiths and it would taste better than this. AND the owner was also with my mom when she was ordering the cake.
This is extremely disappointing that we paid for a product that we had specific requirements for, and that they could not even be fulfilled. We had ordered this cake intending it to be very simplistic and it's almost hilarious how badly it was done. On top of this, it cost us $65 for this cake that we threw in the trash shortly after trying it. You couldn't throw the thing in milk and it would probably STILL be as dry as the desert we live in.
Attached are photos, if you would eat it that's great but I have standards. Circular cake is what we got and the other one was the reference.
edit: was...
Read moreThe top memory is having a nice breakfast, reading the paper I brought from the hotel, having a well made latte, and listening to the pastry chef visiting with a friend in French. It transports me out of Las Vegas and to a favorite cafe in St-Germain, Paris. The pain au chocolat has perfect chocolate throughout it, and the pastry just melts in the mouth after the crispy bite. Just saying chocolate croissant seems to be too prosaic. It's the best palmier ever, and finally, the canelé -- perfection. A canelé is supposed to be so heavily caramelized so as to be skirting with going black. It will taste like caramel and molasses on the outside. The inside will be airy and cake like. It is heaven in two small bites. That is if you get a proper one. I've almost never had one like that in the US. I was so looking forward to another one on our second trip, and they didn't have any. As our dear leader says -- Sad. The second day we went with cooked food, along with pastries. My wife says it's the best omelette she's ever had. It was more in the French style. Finally, the coffee. The coffee was excellent both days. It wasn't bitter, or sour. The drinks were properly made. However, on our first visit the barista had more skill, and it wasn't just that the latte art was better (it was), the coffee was better. That's the problem with real espresso drinks (no whipped cream or flavorings wanted) is that the flavor is in the quality of the barista. So, good both times, but the only...
Read moreI bought a Croque Monsieur as a brunch item. The sandwich surpassed expectations!!!!
When I had studied French in high school, this was one of the featured food items that the textbook told us that France had popularized. It is a ham and cheese sandwich where the cheese is seared into the top bread layer. In the middle, there is a gooey cheese sauce along with non-liquid cheese that one might equate with a grilled cheese sandwich. In my travels to Washington D.C., Virginia, Tennessee, Vermont, and elsewhere, I had not had an opportunity to try it.
Delices Gourmands just saved me a few thousand dollars in air fare to France. This sandwich might only be equaled, not surpassed. If you want a superlative Croque Monsieur, look no further than Delices Gourmands in Las Vegas, Nevada. These people know how to make top quality gourmet food.
My wife and sister-in-law found this place before I arrived and were raving about the meals they had had here. They asked that I give them my impressions once I tried something and not simply capitulate and agree the food was good.
I decided to try a complicated item by ordering the Croque. To prepare a Croque properly requires a lot of passion and attention to detail. Delices Gourmands is superlative in these areas.
As the French might say--FOR--MI--DABLE--Formidable.
Anyone seeking an inspiring culinary experience should check this place out. Simply the best!!!...
