Straight Up Spellbound ā Wing It is the TRUTH
Let me be clear ā Iām a Black man from South Central L.A. with a Creole Pops and a Texas-raised Mama, so when I say Iāve got a finicky palate when it comes to soul food, I mean it. This aināt a trend for me ā itās bloodline. So when I walk into a soul food spot, Iām either tasting the real deal or Iām walking out. There IS NO in-between.
My wife and I were returning from riding the motorcycle in Red Rock Canyon and wanted something GUUD! The wifey suggested we try out Wing It based on pictures she saw on the Gram.
But let me tell you what happened when we left Wing Itā¦
āI donāt know what Black Magic Food VooDoo fam is doing there but I am now under their spell.ā I said that to them when we left and they laughed, but I was dead serious ā I was hooked.
Hereās what we had:
Catfish ā crispy, seasoned, and flavorsome through and through
Shrimp ā tails already removed (yāall hear me?!), perfectly battered ā just dip and consume
Texas-style potatoes ā straight-up killer. Golden, seasoned, and hearty
Wings ā cooked just right and bursting with flavor that made my mouth dance
And yes, every meal comes with a drink ā no nickel and diming, just good hospitality
The cashier? Handled everything ā my man took our order, brought our food, checked on us multiple times, and kept the place immaculate. Friendly, attentive, and just on point from start to finish.
And the music? That real 80s and 90s R&B ā the forgotten classics that wrap around your soul. Iām talking surface-level smooth and Marvin Gaye deep at the same time. For a moment, it felt like I was sitting with my late Momz again ā thatās how deep this place hits.
Theyāre from Texas too, and now I know why it all felt so right. This wasnāt just dinner ā this was an experience. A connection. A memory.
Iāll be eating here regularly without question. I'm thinking about the food as I type. Real spitterelli. Support them. Tell your people. Wing It aināt just good ā...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy daughter and I decided to check them out today because of the hype on Instagram. I will start of with the service. It was good! The whole staff was friendly and professional. The atmosphere was clean, a bit small but that was not a bad thing, it wasn't busy when we got there around 3pm. People started to flock in shortly after, but still not busy. Just a consistent flow of traffic. Now let's get to the point!!! The FOOD! The wait was decent, not too long. The presentation was just ok. It was nothing like what was on Instagram! We ordered 6pc wing combo(orange pepper flavor) with fries and kool-aid and 2pc fish and shrimp (6pc shrimp)combo lemon pepper with fries and kool-aid. It came out hot! The flavor on the wings was fire, love it! I wish they were cooked a little longer. The fries were good as well!. Kool-aid soooo good had to get another one. Now the lemon pepper fish, it wasn't that good, it was over cooked, fried way too hard and lacked the lemon pepper flavor. I wish I would have taken pictures, I was so busy doing homework and trying to eat while.it.was hot I totally forgot. But the shrimp were good, cooked well still lacked the lemon pepper flavor. Overall they were decent. If I am ever in the area I would visit again for the wings and kool-aid. I would see if they could cook them a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAnthony hooked our neighborhood up with this killer new spot! I live just down the road from this place and I will be coming back over and over. On Anthonyās advice I ordered the Lemon Pepper Catfish and he did not steer me wrong. I ordered it with their hottest hot sauce too and got the combo with hush puppies and fries as well as a Kool-Aid to drink.
Every element of this meal was excellent. The catfish is cooked crispy to perfection and the lemon pepper coating works perfectly with the fish. A quick dip in the hot sauce set everything off and made my mouth so happy. The hush puppies take me back to my childhood in New Orleans and the tangy tartar sauce tasted freshly made. The fries were a huge surprise- crispy without being crunchy, still light and fluffy inside, and lightly seasoned to perfection. The yellow creole sauce was extremely tasty too and made for a great dip for all the ingredients.
I also got a slice of lemon cake which was light and fluffy and hit the spot after the rest of the food. Everything was packaged nicely so I had no trouble taking it home, but the restaurant has a decent amount of seating inside as well and felt very welcoming.
I told Anthony heād be sick of seeing me, and Iāll definitely be...
