I’ve been to this restaurant four times. The first time, I really enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere, good food, and excellent service. I’m a fan of carne a la llanera because I lived in Cali for four years.
On my second visit, we ordered picadas, which were very disappointing. The meats were dry, overcooked, and the food arrived cold. I mentioned this to the waiter, and he offered to heat it in the microwave—which seemed absurd, since microwaving dry, overcooked meat only makes it worse. The service was poor, and the food quality was not worth the $60 we paid for the picada.
The third time, I went for a friend’s birthday. We ordered picadas again, and unfortunately had the same experience. The food took a long time to arrive, and when it did, it was cold. On top of that, the plate had more potatoes, plantains, and carbs than actual meat.
After that, I decided not to return. That was about a year ago. But today I was craving soup and decided to give it one last chance. I went to pick it up, and while I was there, I ordered carne a la llanera again—everything to go. They had me wait in the car for almost 25 minutes, which I didn’t mind, thinking they were preparing everything fresh. But when I got home (just five minutes away), everything was cold.
I had to heat up the soup. It wasn’t bad, but it was overly salty and heavily seasoned. The picada was the opposite: bland, cold, and once again, the meat was DRY—even though I asked for it medium rare. The rib was even burned in parts and had a strange flavor, like it had been cooked long ago and reheated. Once again, I wasted nearly $60 on poor quality food.
Now I understand why the restaurant was nearly empty when I arrived. In conclusion, I think it’s a good place to drink and party—but not to eat. I won’t waste my money...
Read moreCame in for a group dinner and was very happy to report the sharing meat platters are true to size and amazing. 4 of us spit the smaller platter along with a burger and soup and we were very pleased.
Highlights were the blood sausage and the pork belly. Absolutely get those before your friends realize how tasty they are and duel you for them. The empanadas were also tasty. I'd get those to start but the food comes out super quick so be aware that you will soon run out of table space.
Burger was ok so I'd skip that next time and go for the full fish or add on another steak entree.
Interior was fun with live music and a large bar. Would be interested in trying happy hour options next time.
Prices were more than fair for food. This is definitely a high value menu for those eating, however some of the tequila was a bit pricey vs the menu benchmark. While $13 is actually below market for the tequila I ordered, it was a bit amusing to note that it was the same price as the giant beef rib soup we ordered. If you're in the mood to drink expect prices to be in range of most mainstream restaurants. If you're just eating be you'll have a great price to value ratio. For 4 of us pre tip it ended up being $120, with about $25 of that being just my drinks.
Service was good and the chef would walk by and wave to see how we were doing. Nice touch of customer service.
Speaking Spanish helps but isnt necessary as menu and staff are bilingual. Looking forward to coming back soon and trying the fish, steak salad, and other...
Read moreTo be honest this my first time going here and I don’t like to leave bad reviews unless multiple concerns. Maybe I set my expectations to high.
I ordered to go the steak burger I was told about 10mins which is cool so I came back in about 15mins and stood at the front for another 10mins no acknowledgement. ( slight concern but minimal)
I ordered the steak burger with everything on it. Got my food….
I think I was better off going to Wawa across the street. 1.)The bun I’m sure had about 2-3 days before going spoil 2) the veggies on it was not better 3) the “Steak burger” was a pattie I felt like it was from those boxes with frozen hamburger bought from wal-mart… It was very dry with no taste definitely not a steak burger. I could not finish it even though I was really hungry. 4) the fries were ok but was very heavy on the grease.
If there is somewhere in world that has a flood I’m sure if you through this burger at the flood it can dry up the water.
I was honestly really excited to go there being that I pass this place a lot and never got a chance to experience this place. After that I don’t think I will go back again to see if my opinion changes. Also why does it smell like paint...
