Iâm sitting here at work thinking about food. đ€€ My mind drifts off to those hot summer days as a kid, riding shotgun with my dad, zig zagging through the matrix of back and side streets in New Orleans. He was one if the best HVAC techs in the Nola area back then. Nola in the summer time is a different level of hot, but i never complained about going with him to work. Probably bc i knew weâd stop for food along the way, and scoring an antique bottle find under a shotgun house was an added plus. Dad knew where to go for the best Cajun food, and it never was anything downtown. The best places were always on the outskirts of downtown, off the interstate, a dozen lefts/rights, a few U turns, 273 dodged pot holes and countless explicit phrases yelled out of his window (which I wonât repeat) đ and we were there. Often a little nook in a sketchy neighborhood, on the side of a gas station with hardly any obvious signage outside letting passerbyâs know what treasures were waiting thru that glass door on that wall that desperately needed pressure washing and a paint job. The locals knew, so there was no need to advertise. Word of mouth kept those hidden gems wide open all day every day. We have one of those âoff the beaten pathâ hidden gems right here in Laurel, without so many turns or potholes nor the need for an exterior makeover. And the owner/chef, well; youâll know right where Tyger is from when you hear her accent. New Orleans food from the hands and heart of a true Cajun. And I just realized why Iâm such a regular here. It isnât just the food and the friendly service. The whole experience brings back memories. â€ïž Yaâll go check out Finnâs...
Read moreSo while visiting 1 of my favorite places down south Laurel Ms i was told by a friend after conveying that after the ride to i had become hungry eagerly so he started suggesting that i try a new spot which has become his favorite place to get seafood, and being me im open to the idea of the occasional newbie ceremony of taste testing so we take a few blocks and head in tht direction so prior to i was under the impression it would b fried catfish haven where i wld smell grease in the air!! But as soon i walked in i quickly knew i wasnt in a catfish haven It was respectfully in all sarcasm to clean in lobby so as i and the food captn approach the counter i began to feel more reluctant not to order and after looking over menu i didn't and turn around to return to car but friend was very adamant about me eating at this place so i said hey get me a fish poboy nonchalantly,so after sitting for about 15 mins he returned to parking lot with the poboy that i like an cold case investigator looked over the poboy and all its trimming like it was a crime scene that was missing Louisiana hot sauce so i peeled paper sleeve back and took a big bite and besides no seasoning to fish batter the poboy was actually fresh and hot and could c myself visiting again but with my sauce...
Read moreI know itâs rare for me to do this rating but they really deserved it!!! Southern small town dining at its absolute best! We are so picky on restaurants that cook Catfish in the same fryer because usually everything will taste like catfish. We called them to ask if they fry them in the same fryer And they said yes, even tho we were willing to give them a try. As soon as we arrived we were welcomed right away and made to feel comfortable and gave us the menu. We were âHangryâ đ at that time, so we ordered with our eyes instead of our stomach. No regrets tho!!! We ordered a bowl of Seafood Gumbo and Crawfish ĂtouffĂ©e and Imperial Stuffed Crab. Then they brought the Hushpuppies, salad dressing (which we didnât touch) and fries (they were amazing). I donât know if I would say âSave the best for lastâ because everything was so great, we got the Crawfish Big Easy Pasta. Itâs worth it! The atmosphere was extremely friendly and family friendly. Lovely Local shack to eat!!! Definitely will go back, not tomorrow because theyâre closed due to Prom. After you eat all this feast, we recommend that you to go to Downtown to walk out the extra calories yâall ate here! Everything we ate was...
